Diversity

We have made it a priority to reflect our nation’s evolving diversity in the products we sell, the people we hire, and the culture we create in our organization. Our colleagues, like our customers, are members of our communities.

Our Approach
Guiding our efforts is the Loblaw Inclusion Council, which is made up of senior leaders from across our organization. The Council is responsible for championing diversity, setting strategy and goals, and tracking progress.  The Inclusion Council is committed to:

  • Ensuring our stores reflect the diversity of the communities they serve;
  • Advancing women to leadership roles;
  • Increasing the representation of people with disabilities in our organization; and
  • Exploring market opportunities for talent and customers, which include the Aboriginal, and LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) populations.

Workspace

Our Store Support Centre (corporate headquarters) is located at 1 President’s Choice Circle in Brampton, Ontario and is an exciting, positive and energetic work environment. Our open-concept workspace fosters creativity and teamwork and offers a cafeteria that is a foodie’s dream come true.

Other highlights of our headquarters include:

  • On-site fitness centre and massage therapist
  • Medical department with prescription pick up service; dry-cleaning services
  • Beach volleyball, skating rink and basketball courts
  • Product test kitchen, latte bar and convenience store

As part of our commitment to Diversity & Inclusion, we also have a zen-like Reflection Room. It’s open to all colleagues for prayer, meditation and quiet reflection. We have since created reflection rooms at some of our other office and store locations.

In our stores and distribution centres, colleagues have access to lounges/rest areas, made more fun and enjoyable through personal touches and purchased with annual funds managers are given.

Katie, Assistant Store Manager

Many people say that a career in grocery retail is something that just happens; it’s something you fall into. Having always had a passion for people and food, I applied to the grad@loblaw program. I am now a Manager with the Real Canadian Superstore and have ‘fallen’ into a career that feels right for me.

As a manager, not only do I need to personally get better but I have a whole team of people to bring along with me. Great teams, new ideas and a little extra elbow grease is what make our business better, and the grad@loblaw program gave me a chance to experience getting better.

Brendan, Associate Merchant

The Associate Merchant role with Loblaw is a great position for any new grad looking to begin a career in Category Management.   This position is a great developmental role which has exposed me to all the basics of retail and allowed me to develop a better understanding of Loblaw. Here, the friendly work culture encourages collaboration and provides support for new hires as they transition into the business.  This friendly work culture is also reflected through an organizational structure which provides easy access to management at all levels and helps you envision and develop a career path that can work for you within the company.

Hitesh, Junior Security Analyst

I had to pick from three job offers I had when I graduated; after being here, I feel joining Loblaw has been the best decision of my life. I have freedom to set my own goals and work towards them. Ideas are always welcome and innovation is encouraged. Not only am I surrounded by brilliant, friendly and talented people, but there are so many opportunities for me to develop.
