Summer Student Planner
Job Purpose
Join us this summer for an exciting opportunity to participate in school board planning. The successful candidate will assist with a full range of planning functions, providing support to the Property and Planning Team of the Durham District School Board (DDSB).
Accountabilities:
This summer, you will assist with researching and preparing reports, provide general operational support to the functioning of the Planning Department, including computer applications, and technical support to the staff.
Some areas that you will be involved in are: LAND USE PLANNING: Assist with the land-use planning process related to DDSB facilities, including municipal planning, and the school boundary development. Provide support in developing shape files identifying future school sites and verifying locations through site visits.
CLASSROOM and PORTABLE USE: Support staff in the review elementary school floor plans to identify classroom/portables requirements and ensure compliance with DDSB policies, Ministry requirements, and various legislative regulations. Provide support in the management of the list of classrooms/portables in use, utilized by multiple DDSB departments. Provide support in the determination of sufficient parking and availability for the additional classroom/portables, while ensuring compliance with various legislative requirements.
Education: Post-secondary or Graduate student in planning, geography, environmental studies, architecture, landscape architecture, or a related field. Must be enrolled for the following year.
Student membership in OPPI/CIP or CACPT is considered an asset Experience, Knowledge and Skills: Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office programs, including Microsoft Excel
Sound judgement, analytical, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and organizational skills
Strong communication skills, both written and oral
Experience with GIS Applications is required
Knowledge of or experience with Provincial municipal planning or education legislation, policies and procedures is considered an asset
Knowledge/experience with School Planning Software (SPS) and ESRI (ArcGIS) an asset
School Board and/or municipal planning experience is considered an assetSalary: $23.00 per hour
Position Start Date: May 1, 2024
Position End Date: August 22, 2024
The successful candidate will work: 7 hour days from Monday to Friday between May 1, 2024 June 30, 2024
