EIPS is recruiting a full-time Library Technician/Educational Assistant at Fultonvale Elementary Junior High. Fultonvale Elementary Junior High serves approximately 500 students in kindergarten to Grade 9, with 23 teaching staff and 10 support staff. The school is located in rural Strathcona County, AB, approximately 13 kilometres southeast of Sherwood Park, AB.

The Library Technician assists students, teachers, and support staff in effectively utilizing the learning resources available within the library/learning commons. The library technician must understand the standardized technical procedures that exist in all libraries and must be an information specialist in all forms, including books, periodicals and online resources. The Library Technician will maintain the library/learning commons through team planning and application of standardized library policies and procedures. This individual receives direction from the Teacher-Librarian or Principal.
Circulation Services Input and monitor the circulation of library resources
Compile overdue reports and track overdue materials
Contact parents regarding overdue materials, as necessary
Collect money for lost and damaged materials
Generate statistical reports
Shelve books and other materials in a timely fashion
Facilitate the ordering and circulation of materials within the school
Route periodicals to appropriate teachersAssistance to Students and Staff Provide guidance to students in locating materials both in print and online
Provide readers advisory service for students
Facilitate and support individual students and classes doing research in the library
Supervise and assist students with internet usage
Assist teachers in locating resources for unit planning
Organize and/or assist with reading promotion activities
Demonstrate the use of the OPAC for staff and studentsLibrary Automation Use international cataloguing standards to create electronic records and to modify imported and existing records in the library database
Locate and import electronic library records using subscription services and/or the Internet
Manage database of electronic library records through global changes, authority indexes, and individual updates
Create and modify various reports including statistics, bibliographies, and database maintenance reports
Perform and manage automated library inventoryTechnology and Equipment Assist students and teachers with the operation of computers (including Internet, email, word processing, spreadsheets, and other applications)
Assist students and teachers with the operation of AV and technological equipment (may include computer projectors, photocopier, laminator, etc.)
Troubleshoot computer and equipment problems in and adjacent to the library
Work with Technology Services personnel in the deployment of IT resources
Follow EIPS repair procedures for AV and technological equipment
Maintenance (dust, clean, replace bulbs, etc.) of AV and technological equipment in and adjacent to the library
Maintain inventory of AV equipment (model and serial number)Acquisition of Materials Assist the Teacher-Librarian or Principal with the library-allocated budget
Maintain a consideration file for future purchases
Research to locate the best pricing and availability for various library resources
Place library materials and supply orders
Accompany certified staff to book displays and takeaway sales
Track, verify and monitor orders for missing items and backorders
Monitor and track periodical orders
Process new materials (organizing, taping, covering, stamping, bar-coding, etc.)Library Maintenance and Organization Train and provide functional supervision to library volunteers, student helpers, and work-experience students
Maintain a neat and organized work environment
Create and maintain an inviting learning environment
Ensure books and materials are properly filed on the shelves (shelf-reading)
Under the direction of certificated staff, manage the library collection by organizing, monitoring, and weeding materials
Repair damaged library materials as necessary
Prepare displays and bulletin boards
Promote library resources (displays, bibliographies, reports, book talks, reading to students, etc.)
Prepare and maintain library and computer lab schedules
Filing

In combined school/public libraries, provide liaison with public library staff

EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT
Educational Assistants (EAs) assist teachers with many instructional and non-instructional tasks in the classroom and with other school activities. EAs work as members of the school and student support team. EAs either work with a particular special needs student or a group of students within a class or in a special program.
The EA provides routine and repetitive instructional support. Under the direction of the teacher, an EA assists the student in acquiring the education and skills necessary for advancement in the educational setting. To reach this objective, the EA follows an individually prescribed learning program, through team planning and working one-on-one with the student(s). This involves routine recording, basic charting and logging of observations. EAs may provide personal care and additional assistance for students depending on their particular needs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School Diploma
Educational Assistant Certificate or comparable education would be an asset
A First Aid certificate would be an asset
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training would be an asset
Courses related to working with students with special needs would also be an asset
