Masters degree, recognized by the College of Teachers, in counselling psychology or a related discipline with a focus on behaviour disorders and counselling
knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Educations current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as outlined in the Manual of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines for Special Education Services, as it relates to behavior and mental health support
demonstrated ability to collect behavioural information and performing behavioural screening and/or assessments in order to complete Functional Behavioural Assessments
knowledge of and demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of IEPs in consultation with the classroom teacher(s), parent(s), student and district personnel
sound understanding and demonstrated application of current middle school philosophy:
oTeaming - demonstrated ability and experience working with one or two other teachers to support a core group of students
oAdvisory dedicated instructional time with students to foster connectedness and positive relationships to support adolescent development
oExploratory providing students the opportunity to sample high interest courses
oCollaboration ongoing inquiry-based team work
demonstrated capabilities in providing effective student, family and group counselling services
demonstrated interest in facilitating peer counselling skills amongst students
demonstrated knowledge of and proven ability to access community services for students and their families
knowledge of, and demonstrated application of strategies to support the goals as outlined in SD 33 Aboriginal Enhancement Agreement
willingness to assist with the leadership of the School Based Team
demonstrated understanding of school timetable for both middle and elementary and ability to extensively utilize online scheduling tools such as MyEd
proven ability to inspire and support confidence and self-worth in adolescents
demonstrated ability to motivate students who are disadvantaged or have dysfunctional behaviour patterns to attend school regularly
demonstrated application and facilitation of small groups to address issues such as anxiety and depression
demonstrated knowledge and ability to support classroom teachers with best practice in SEL
demonstrated ability to be a case manager and positively advocate for students
willingness to work with and support Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
