Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is one of the largest school divisions in Alberta, serving the educational needs of approximately 17,750 students in 42 schools. EIPS is recruiting a permanent full-time Journeyman Electrician with our Facility Services department. EIPS may also consider Apprentice Electricians who have obtained at least their 3rd year designation. Apprentice wages would be scaled accordingly.

Facility Services is located at the EIPS Central Administration building in Sherwood Park, at 683 Wye Road. Providing services for the division, Central administration is comprised of eight departments, in addition to the Board of Trustees. The departments include Education Executive, Communication Services, Facility Services, Student Transportation, Human Resources, Financial Services, Supports for Students, and Information Technologies. Commencing

40 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day)

Under the general supervision of the Facilities Foreman the electrician is responsible for the daily execution of duties as assigned, by organizing, scheduling, carrying out, and monitoring the completion of work in his/her area of responsibility. The electrician is responsible for all aspects of the electrical trade.

Duties and Responsibilities Carry out all routine, preventative maintenance programs, emergency, minor maintenance and special projects as assigned by the Facilities Foreman.

Perform all aspects of the electrical trade following standard trade practices, standards and building codes; organize the selection, drawing and delivery of materials and special equipment to the work site; prioritize, coordinate and schedule assigned work with building occupants and other trades and/or contractors for optimum efficiency and minimum disruption in the schools.

Carry out and achieve professional results in related trades such as fire alarm systems, security card access systems, main switch gear and sub panels, clock and sound systems, water and sewer systems, emergency lighting/generating systems, computer network systems, controls, motors and HVAC systems. Operate a service vehicle and maintain required truck stock.

Work with other Facility Services personnel, specialized trades and contractors in the design of specialized maintenance work and projects.

Carry out assigned inspections and investigate problems, read and interpret blueprints, provide solutions, prepare reports, sketches, and detailed estimates; during normal daily routine identify problems and report them to the appropriate foreman.

Prepare and/or complete administrative documentation associated with timekeeping, work order system, Health and Safety, and material and special equipment requests.

Carry out the duties of stand-by and after-hour call-out tradesmen and act as foreman when required. Other duties may be assigned.Education and Experience

Education: High School diploma

Valid Alberta Journeymans Electrician Certificate. A masters certificate would be an asset.

The Alberta Fire Alarm Maintenance Certificate would be an asset.Experience: Minimum of five years experience in the trade after completion of apprenticeship training preferably in maintenance in an institutional or commercial setting.

A thorough knowledge of the electrical trade, be able to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment failures, and have strong decision-making skills.

Additional experience in related trades is a definite asset.

Strong computer skills to work with software applications in Microsoft and Google

Trained in First Aid and WHMIS procedures.

Must possess a valid Alberta Drivers Licence and meet the requirements of the Elk Island Public Schools Vehicle and Equipment Operating Manual.Equivalencies will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes Ability to work with little or no supervision.

Comprehensive knowledge of all electrical, building and fire codes.

Knowledge of low voltage building controls is an asset.

Highly developed customer service skills.

Comprehensive knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety codes and Workers Compensation Regulations.

Ability to prioritize, plan and schedule multiple work tasks.

Ability to supervise contractors and other staff.

Detailed knowledge of operation and maintenance of HVAC systems.

Ability to liaise with school administrative staff.

Ability to respond to and correct emergency situations.

Ability to track and record work and prepare reports.

Ability to operate specialized equipment such as forklift, man lift, power auger, etc.
