We invite applications for the temporary position of: 0.50 FTE Grades K-12 Online Learning Support Teacher
Please note this temporary position will end June 30, 2025 or upon return of the incumbent.
Online Learning Support teachers work with students with low incidence challenges, behavioral/mental health issues and learning disabilities throughout the province. They play an active role in the identification and assessment of students. They provide support to
online teachers to facilitate the inclusion of students in their learning programs; assist online teachers with the development and use of I.E.P.s; and collaborate with online teachers, home facilitators, and external support people to design/implement instructional
strategies or to adapt/modify instructional content/materials for student success. They also provide direct remedial instruction.
Preferred qualifications: Degree in Special Education (i.e. post degree diploma program, Special Education concentration)The successful candidate will demonstrate: Ability to provide support for students across the special needs spectrum
Ability to provide instructional support for students with learning challenges
Ability and qualifications to administer Level B assessments
Ability to support classroom teachers with developing, implementing and monitoring Individual Education Plans and Learning Plans for non-designated students
Experience in preparing adapted and modified curriculum
Knowledge of early literacy interventions
Experience with educational software to support student learning such as Kurzweil, etc.
Ability to develop positive behavior supports using functional assessment practices
Ability to work collaboratively with classroom teachers to design or implement instructional strategies or adapt/modify instructional content or materials
Ability to work as part of a multi disciplinary team (including school district professional and paraprofessional staff, parents and community agency staff)
Ability to work as a member of the School Based Team
Ability to case manage and problem solve
Ability to provide training for, to organize and to direct the work of educational assistants and to assist principals with scheduling
Successful teaching experience and understanding of K-12 curriculumNavigate/NIDES teachers guide successful learning by providing personalized, online learning courses using diverse instructional technology. Navigate teachers commit to working online and face-to-face with students, colleagues and parents. Teachers actively
research, develop and maintain advanced online curriculum and support blended instruction in classrooms, learning centers, and through tutorials. They teach multi-age groups of students province wide & work onsite at a Comox Valley School.
The successful candidate will demonstrate: Ability to create and manage online courses, assignments, assessments and resources incorporating current pedagogical frameworks (i.e. project based, personalized)
Ability to work with and provide tutorial support for students online and in person
Ability to support students with course adaptations and I.E.P.s
Ability to utilize the following online tools: Brightspace (or equivalent online learning management system), MyEd, Seesaw, Mathletics, Learning A-Z, Zoom, TeamsOur educational team is committed to engaging learners to develop creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication and social competencies.
