THE ROLE
This is library work of some complexity and variety in assisting the teacher/school librarian in library tasks such as preparing orders, receiving, checking and processing library materials; charging and discharging circulating library material; keeping various records, using computer and relieving the librarian of regular clerical library duties. Work is performed in accordance with well-developed methods and procedures in which some independence of action and judgment is exercised in the more routine aspects of the work. Work performance is checked and reviewed by a supervisor for accuracy, completeness and conformance with established procedures and practices.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS Sound knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation and arithmetic.
Sound knowledge of computer, applicable software and peripheral equipment necessary to perform clerical, library and research tasks and assist staff.
Sound knowledge of the functions, rules and procedures governing the library's operations and activities.
Sound knowledge of library and modern office practices and procedures.
Ability to operate a computer, applicable software and peripheral equipment necessary to prepare, maintain and produce a variety of materials.
Ability to perform clerical and library tasks in accordance with prescribed methods and procedures.
Ability to operate equipment related to the work, such as photocopiers, typewriter, audio-visual and other equipment.
Ability to maintain positive and effective relationships in dealing with students and staff by supplying assistance and information related to library operations.
Ability to maintain order and ensure safety of students in the library environment.
Ability to exercise effective judgement and action in performing routine clerical and library tasks.
Skill in keyboarding with speed and accuracy.
Superior clerical aptitude. DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 12th grade or equivalent, including courses in keyboarding, computers and software applications, bookkeeping and/or library technology. Six months related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
This is a unionized position and the current rate of pay is $ 29.02 per hour and shall be entitled to benefits as per the Collective Agreement who have successfully completed the prescribed period of probation. Please see Article 6.1 of the Collective Agreement for more information.
