Job Summary & Responsibilities At the North Poplar Campus of the Abbotsford School of Integrated Arts, we know that the Arts enhance and engage learners and make school not just a place to learn, but a place to grow and live. Arts integration is an approach to teaching in which students discover and demonstrate their learning through the different arts: drama, dance, visual art, music and creative writing. Students engage in the creative process that connects the curriculum to the arts in a deep and meaningful way. Students come to us with a variety of exceptionalities and various levels of need. A Social Emotional Learning (SEL) focus and experience with PBIS (positive behaviour support), Zones of Regulation, Mind Up, SEL Kernels to support success.Grade composition for this primary position will be determined before September.

The annual salary for this full-time Elementary School Teacher position ranges from $61,838 to $108,458, with placement on the July 1, 2024 Teacher Salary Grid based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.

Education & Experience Elementary teacher training with major practicum at the Primary level

Degree in Fine Arts, or related field, with a major/minor in visual or performing arts (preferred)

Coursework in Early Childhood Education Successful teaching experience at the Primary level

Experience teaching visual or performing arts at the Primary level Eligible for B.C. Certification

Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or final practicum reportsKnowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to demonstrate thorough knowledge of the Primary program

Ability to demonstrate thorough knowledge and recent experience with a balanced literacy program including guided reading and assessment

Ability to integrate arts into the curriculumTeaching Competencies

All teachers are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs, feelings and capabilities of others in a tactful, compassionate and respectful manner.

Organization & Planning: Ability to plan and organize for effective instruction, differentiation and assessment

Classroom Management: Create and maintain an optimal learning environment for each student while managing student behavior and classroom dynamics.

Facilitation & Engagement: Ability to capture and maintain students interest, effort, participation and enthusiasm for both the content and the process of learning

Assessment & Coaching: Utilize balanced assessment and feedback to improve student learning including the use of formative and summative assessment strategies.
