The Opportunity
Rocky View Schools (RVS) is seeking an outstanding professional for a continuing, full-time (35 hrs/week) position of Facility Planner to join our dynamic team. The Facility Planner is responsible for advising
and executing on matters of land use regarding existing and potential facilities
of Rocky View Schools (RVS) and surrounding areas, in consideration of both
present and future needs. The Facility Planner participates in public consultation
processes and analyzes demographic data and development proposals from the various Municipalities within RVS division.
A valid Alberta Motor Vehicle License and access to reliable vehicle as some travel will be required to schools. Must be available to work during peak periods within the year and some overtime will be required for this position.
Responsibilities include Represents RVS interests in municipal and provincial policy reviews, special studies, and task forces that relate to school facilities, as well as in contacts with municipalities, government agencies, and any other relevant agencies
Provide support in the public engagement process related to facility planning and attendance area updates as needed.
Prepares reports and recommendations for Director of Planning to present to the Board of Trustees and Senior Executive Team in relation to student enrollments, facility plans, school enrollment projections etc.
Participates as needed in the design and preparation of RVS infrastructure strategies and long-term plans including site development proposals, and land requirements for future and existing RVS facilities
Coordinates with the municipal jurisdiction to ensure that site preparation work, including zoning, subdivision, and site design, is completed to facilitate new school construction
Works with the Manager of Planning in the preparation of 3 years capital plan and 10 years facility plan and makes recommendations in relation to targeting final building capacities, reviewing land and site requirements are in line with the Joint Use Agreements between the Municipality and the School Board
Monitors, compiles, and analyzes residential development information, including the interpretation of demographic data and trends
Identifies priorities for new school construction and preservation and applies to the province for capital funding under the supervision of Manager of Planning
Supports governmental and community partnerships and initiatives by assisting in the coordination of community use of Division facilities
Participates in consultation and implementation of changes to schools or program boundaries and school designations
Coordinates new school openings with municipalities and provincial officials, as well as Division staffEducation/Experience Bachelors degree in Planning, Architecture, Urban Geography or related field
7 years experience in public sector related to land development, architecture, facilities management, planning or a similar role
Previous experience analyzing statistical information to project future needs
Previous experience within a school division or a municipality is considered an asset
Professional certification in Facility Management, Architecture, Planning or any other related field is considered an assetKnowledge and Skills Demonstrated ability to read and interpret municipal planning documents, site plans, architectural, engineering and survey plans/drawings
Proven ability to establish collaborative working relationships with internal and external
clients
Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organization, prioritization, and time management skills
Ability to successfully work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal
supervision
Strong critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and attention to detail
Working knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) is considered an asset
Working knowledge of Auto-Cad software and/or Adobe Creative suite is considered an
asset
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applicationsRocky View Schools Benefits

Salary: $38.44-$46.70 per hour (effective Dec.2/24 the salary range will be $39.59 - $48.10 hourly rate as a result of a 3% pay increase)
