Invites applications for the position of:

Communicative Disorders Assistant

OSSTF - PSSP 1 - $26.57 - $42.38 per hour (plus vacation pay)

One (1) Temporary Part Time Position - 0.4 FTE (14 hpw)

Effective August 26, 2024 to June 30, 2025

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Supervisor of Speech-Language Services, the Communicative Disorders Assistant works under the direction of qualified Speech-Language Pathologists to implement approved programming in support of students. Major Responsibilities: Under the leadership of the SLP, assist with the identification of a students communication needs and subsequently provide recommendations related to the area of assistive technology/augmentative communication.

Provide short-term, intensive support to students (individually and small groups) in order to implement recommendations.

Consult to school teams and assist in developing students communication and literacy skills including providing school and families with materials, references or resources.

Assist with creation and maintenance of programming materials and Speech and Language Services departmental resources.

Participate in both the development of educational training materials and the delivery of professional training/education.

Participate in parent conferences, case conferences and team meetings, as required.

Maintain clinical records as per departmental procedures.

Assist with the long-term follow-up necessary to support the communication needs of students.

Qualifications and Experience: Successful completion of a post graduate diploma in a Communication Disorders Assistant training program.

Minimum 2 years of experience working as a CDA.

Previous/current working experience in the field of Alternative and Augmentative communication preferred.

A demonstrated ability to work with technology. Skills and Competencies: Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

A demonstrated ability to work with technology.

Strong organizational skills.
