Start Date: August 19, 2024Kivalliq School Operations invites applications for the following position: Learning CoachThe Learning Coach is a trusted guide, facilitator and co-learner who models and supports the use of effective, evidence-based instructional practices in literacy. Learning coaches help classroom teachers refine their teaching by observing, coaching, and mentoring them in the classroom. The role of the learning coach is to:

model effective instructional strategies and ways to use professional resources to improve instructional strategies

model how to use assessment tools effectively and support teachers to assess student reading achievement and use data to plan for instruction

work with the principal and school team to interpret data from benchmark assessments

help develop and revise a school literacy plan as part of school improvement planning lead professional training sessions in areas determined by the priorities and goals in the schools literacy plan work collaboratively with principals and other teachers in the territory to develop and share effective practices

Located in the picturesque hamlet of Baker Lake, Jonah Amitnaaq Secondary School serves the community of Baker Lake. The school has a population of approximately 300 students in a 6-12 setting with a staff of 34. The school and community are steeped in a rich history of Inuit culture.[b]Required qualifications:[/b]

Bachelor of Education degree

Teaching certification acceptable for Nunavut teaching certificate

Minimum of two years teaching experience

[b]Desired qualifications:[/b]

Evidence / experience building positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, stakeholders

Experience in reading processes, acquisition, assessment and instruction using balanced literacy strategies

Experience in collaborative support to students in the effective implementation of formative assessment and differentiated instruction

Experience with formative and summative assessment implementation, reporting and analysis

Experience planning, directing, facilitating and/or reviewing workshops and professional development modules for adult learners

Experience in modeling and/or coaching instructional strategies for teachers

Teaching experience in an ESL environment

Cross-cultural and/or northern teaching experience

Please note: [b]Government housing may be provided and sharing may be required.[/b]Salary and Nunavut Northern Allowance: The salary for certified applicants ranges from $83,643 prorated/annum to $131.151 prorated/annum.
