Pembina Hills School Division seeks an outstanding,

experienced and engaged human resources leader as the Director of Human Resources . Duties are to commence August 6, 2024, or as

mutually agreed.

The Division:

Pembina Hills School Division is a close-knit community

where neighbors know neighbors and our staff know our students. We are very

proud of the welcoming atmosphere in our community schools. Our

Division office is located approximately 120 km northwest of Edmonton in

Barrhead, Alberta. Our region includes the Town of Swan Hills, Woodlands

County, the County of Barrhead, the Town of Barrhead, Westlock County, the

Town of Westlock, the Village of Clyde, the south-eastern portion of Big

Lakes County and the southern portion of the M.D. of Lesser Slave River.

Our

Division serves 3,678 students in 15 community schools, including two

Hutterite colony schools, two outreach schools and a non-denominational

Christian school.

We

also serve an additional 2,933 students across the province online through

Vista Virtual School.

We

have a fantastic staff of 279 teachers and 340 support staff.

Pembina

Hills operates a bus fleet of 100 buses with 70 routes.

Pembina Hills Regional Division serves combines the amenities of the best of

urban and rural living, providing year-round cultural and recreational

has a diverse economy, but is based mainly on agriculture, petroleum and

forestry. There are numerous

The Candidate:

Reporting directly to the Superintendent

of Schools, the selected candidate: holds a valid Alberta Teaching

Certificate and a Master of Education degree with a minimum of ten years

combined educational administrative experience at a school, divisional, and/or

provincial level;

exhibits excellent communication skills,

both written and verbal, and will be a leader who cultivates a progressive

educational culture;

has knowledge of current Education and

Human Resources pedagogy;

has Human Resource training or be

prepared to share their Human Resource training acquisition plan;

understands legislation, research issues and trends in

education and human resources, particularly in rural Alberta;

has working knowledge of Division policy and administrative

procedures;

is an honest and trustworthy leader who models personal and

professional integrity and possesses exceptional people skills;

will be able to work collaboratively with diverse

communities and unique schools and build trust at all levels through authentic

relationships;

is an approachable, open-minded individual who is a collaborative team-builder, and a good listener, seeking to first understand before navigating difficult issues. Key

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with Senior Administration to identify

strategic plans for the Division and to establish goals, objectives and a basis

for accountability for Human Resources

Prepare necessary reports for the Board,

Superintendent and Administrators on the operation of the Human Resources

Department accountability.

Plan, organize, direct and control the activities, services

and operations of the Human Resources department; allocate resources and

personnel to assure the effective and efficient provision of services to the Division

Establish and maintain recruitment and selection criteria ensuring that conditions set out in the Education Act, Provincial and Board Policy and regulations, and

collective agreements are respected,

including forming job postings; coordinating recruiting efforts and job fair

participation; creating interview questions; establishing job descriptions and

supervising selection

Build Division workforce capability with a focus on talent

identification and development through workforce planning, performance

management, employee engagement and employee support

Conduct investigations and consult with legal counsel on

employee litigation

Advise and counsel the Board, Superintendent and

Administrators on policy, legal requirements and impact of legislation on

employees; develop and present policies and Administrative Procedures in

response to legislation and Division needs

Meet with employee groups to provide information, respond

to questions, resolve issues and receive feedback

Participate

and advise the Board on negotiations for unionized and non-unionized employees

Approve reclassification recommendations and salary
