SPECIAL EDUCATION RESOURCE TEACHER POOL

The Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT) will report to the Superintendent of Education responsible for Special Education.

Occasional teachers employed by the Board are eligible to apply for the SERT pool. Priority will be given to permanent OECTA members first. If the position remains unfilled, occasional teachers in the SERT pool will be considered. Teachers in the SERT Pool will be eligible for placement as School SERT for September 2024.

Qualifications:

In order to be considered, you must hold the Qualifications at the time of application.

Basic: Primary/Junior Divisions or Junior/Intermediate Divisions

Additional: Special Education, Part 1

Special Education, Part 2 or Specialist preferred

Experience: Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience

Other: -Computer knowledge (an asset);

-Training in Woodcock-Johnson IV - Achievement;

-An understanding of I.P.R.C. process and IEP development; and

-Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively.

Duties and Responsibilities:

-Works in consultation with classroom teachers, parents/guardians and student (where appropriate),

to develop, implement and evaluate programs/services provided to students;

-Collaborate in the IEP development process including a plan for transitions;

-Assists the classroom teacher by generating ideas and suggestions for program accommodations and

modifications; provides suggestions with respect to strategies and resources;

-Collaborates with the classroom teacher and delivers instructional programs for special needs students

(provides individual and/or small group instruction, delivered in a classroom or a small group setting);

-Assesses individual students by means of observation, information assessment and standardized

educational assessment, as appropriate;

-Participate in the In School Team, as appropriate; and

-Assists in the facilitation of communication and partnerships between parents/guardians and school

staff.
