SYSTEM SPECIAL EDUCATION CONSULTANT

Information Technology - SEA

The System Special Education Consultant will report to the Superintendent of Education responsible for Special Education.

Qualifications: Basic: Any three (3) of the following Divisions: Primary, Junior, Intermediate, or Senior

Additional: Special Education, Specialist (Candidates who can become qualified prior to the start of the assignment shall be considered).

Experience: Minimum of five (5) years teaching as a Special Education Resource Teacher

Other: -Proficiency with technology;

-Experience in the administration of various

assessments and provision of intensive interventions;

-Training and/or knowledge of the Woodcock-Johnson IV - Achievement and/or appropriate assessments;

-A comprehensive understanding & extensive experience with various exceptionalities, the implementation of I.E.P.s & the I.P.R.C. process and alternative programming; and

-Strong organizational, interpersonal and written skills, and the ability to work collaboratively.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The System Special

Education Consultant will support teachers in the development of

Individual Education Plans; support teachers in the development of appropriate

SEA files; assist school Special Education Teachers with supporting student

needs; will be working with and

supporting teachers in the Elementary Transitions Classes & Secondary

Special Education Classes (ASD, Learning Strategies, PAL, Community Living & Job Skills) with the

development of Individual Education Plans; assisting school SERTS. Department

Heads, and SECTS in supporting complex student needs (e.g. students on

alternative learning programs); problem solve with school teams regarding

programming and supports to meet unique student needs, including community

supports as appropriate; collaborate with the Superintendent of Education

responsible for Special Education to plan professional development to support inclusive

program practices; assist in providing assessments for exceptional pupils; support

networks of school teams to reach student achievement goals and other duties as

assigned by Superintendent of Education overseeing Special Education.Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Statement
