The Burnaby School District is recruiting for a TEMPORARY Truck Driver/Groundskeeper. The Truck Driver/Groundskeeper drives district vehicles (Transit Cargo Van/Cube van) to pick up and deliver mail, supplies, materials and equipment. When not performing pick-up and delivery duties, the Truck Driver/Groundskeeper performs a variety of manual tasks in the maintenance of district grounds and facilities and operates a variety of grounds equipment and vehicles.

Required Qualifications & Experience : Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.

Two years related work experience or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience in truck driving. Experience driving a full-size cargo van, a 3-ton or 5-ton truck is required. Experience with a lift-gate is a definite asset.

Performs manual labour (e.g. installation and maintenance of playground equipment and drainage lines, constructing retaining walls, moving furniture, mixing and laying concrete, repairing fences, shovelling snow, and digging ditches).

Drives a front-end loader, backhoe, tractor, dump truck, pick-up truck, or crew cab to transport employees, materials, equipment and tools to and from worksites.

Valid B.C. Drivers License (Class 5).

Sound knowledge of vehicles, equipment, materials and methods used in transportation and groundskeeping work.

Demonstrated ability to operate vehicles and equipment used in transportation and groundskeeping work in a safe and efficient manner.

Thorough knowledge of safety procedures related to work performed.

We are looking for a self-starter with an ability to organize daily tasks, work independently and as a member of a team. Demonstrated ability to work at the level of independence and with the degree of initiative appropriate to the position is also required.

This position is a full-time (40-hours/week) position complete with a wage of $32.31/hour and a benefits package including dental and extended health benefits.
