STATUS: Ten Month, Full-Time, ProbationaryCalgary French & International School (CFIS) is a full French language immersion co-educational independent school, serving over 750 students from preschool through to Grade 12. Successful candidates will provide students in Grades 1 to 6 with additional support in their achievement with English Language Art and Literacy (oral, reading, and writing), with a specific need for supporting English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners.Teacher leaders can expand their reach beyond the classroom by sharing their expertise with colleagues and developing a strong school culture through peer support, collaboration, and trust. This position is an opportunity to work closely with the Curriculum Coordinator, Principal, and classroom teachers to ensure student learning through individual, small group support as well as the purposeful sharing of effective practices, peer coaching to enhance student learning. The literacy coach will be provided with opportunities to further mentor their colleagues in creating learning environments and activities that meet the needs of all students. Responsibilities of this role will include: Meet with the English literacy team on a regular basis to further develop our program, such as various aspects of the scope and sequence.

Provide coaching to teachers by modelling lessons and sharing information and guidance regarding a range of effective and innovative practices to support differentiation through various activities such as: individual discussions (informal and formal),

coaching sessions,

demonstration lessons with pre- and post-discussion/analysis, and

staff meetings and professional development days.

Research and provide content knowledge and resources to staff about learning and teaching literacy.

Work collaboratively with colleagues to understand their knowledge and skill related to curriculum and instruction.

Assess EAL students to monitor their benchmark progress and communicate their needs to teachers.

Collect and analyze data to develop action plans in response to student needs, and

Enhance student learning through large group, small group and individual supports.

Qualifications : Bachelor of Education

Interim or Permanent Alberta teaching certification (or in the process of receiving)

Valid CPR & First Aid certification, or willing to obtain

Prior expertise and training in English literacy and experience in supporting English as an Additional Language learners

Experience with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme is desirable

The successful applicant will need to provide a recent Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening prior to commencing work.Skills, Technical and Behavioural Competencies Required: Strong planner and organizer with exemplary communication skills.

Strong familiarity with Alberta Education documentation.

Compensation

As per the CFIS teaching salary grid .
