Job Band: 10Reports to: District PrincipalJob Summary:

With minimal direction from an administrator, the Early Childhood Educator is responsible for day-to-day operations, which includes planning, coordinating and leading, a quality licensed preschool age group care program and ages 0-5 parent drop-in programs. The ECE will also work in partnership with Kindergarten classroom teachers at the school.Duties and Responsibilities:

Plans and maintains a learning environment that promotes the health, security and well-being of children.

Plans, coordinates and leads a quality licensed preschool age group care program.

Leads early learning activities including stories, music and art aimed at helping children grown linguistically, physically, socially and emotionally.

Assists parents and caregivers in reflecting on a childs current learning and development and provides opportunities for parents and caregivers to observe and practice effective strategies that support early learning.

Maintains current knowledge of early learning and child care issues; community services, resources and supports for children and families; government, school district and school policies and procedures.

Make referrals to community services as needed.

Establishes connections with clients, school staff and community partners to assist families in a smooth transition to the school system.

Promotes and facilitates parent participation programs and provides information on other community early learning opportunities to families.

Collaborates with classroom teacher to provide educational programs at the K-1 level.

Assists in the preparation of the Preschool budget.

Purchases and maintains arts and crafts, equipment, materials and snack supplies.

Maintains statistics and reports related to the preschool and parent drop-in programs as required by the district and the provincial government.

Attends meetings and professional development opportunities that pertain to ECE

Administers First Aid when required.Equipment Used:

Computer, photocopier, audio and video equipment, telephone, calculator and other office and classroom related equipment.Required Knowledge, Ability, Skills:

High school diploma and completed post-certificate or diploma as an Early Childhood Educator.

Current Early Childhood Educators Certificate to practice from the BC governments ECE Registry.

Three (3) years work experience in early childhood education including work experience in parent and child interactive programming.

Demonstrated knowledge of the BC Early Learning Framework and the Indigenous Early Learning and Child Care Framework.

Experience in creating, planning, implementing an early learning program.

Knowledge of community resources for families with pre-school age children.

Maintains familiarity with Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) / Globally Harmonized System (GHS). Ability to extend and model patience, care, tolerance and understanding, including an understanding of diverse ethnic populations.

Ability to use tact, diplomacy and human relations skills for frequent contacts of a difficult, specialized or sensitive nature for the discussion and resolution of problems by presenting or obtaining detailed information.

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to perform individually and as a part of a team.

A valid Class 5 drivers license.

Basic knowledge of computer functions.

A valid Child Care First Aid Certificate.

Physical ability to perform duties related to the operation of a childcare centre.
