extensive academic training and post graduate coursework in the following areas: students with special needs; assessment/testing theory and practice; strategies for adapting curriculum

knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Educations current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as outlined in the Manual of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines for Special Education Services

demonstrated understanding of and successful experience in teaching students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, autism, chronic health and physical disabilities, and multiple disabilities as defined by the Ministry of Education

knowledge of and demonstrated experience in the implementation of IEPs in consultation with the classroom teacher(s)

demonstrated commitment and willingness to work collaboratively with staff, parents and administration in order to support all students through an RTI system and student-centered model

knowledge of and demonstrated effective ability in addressing the wide range of academic, social, emotional and behavioural needs of children

demonstrated experience using a variety of small group teaching methods in a balanced literacy approach

demonstrated successful experience in teaching all components of a well-rounded, balanced, and effective Physical Education program at the elementary level

demonstrated commitment to using a variety of fitness tools/assessments and individualized fitness goals to enhance student fitness levels and promote the enjoyment of fitness

ability to design and implement a variety of assessment practices in Physical Education to measure and monitor student progress effectively

demonstrated sensitivity, awareness and understanding of child physical and social/emotional development

demonstrated effective classroom management, behaviour management and organizational skills

commitment to working with colleagues in an open, accepting manner to promote a strong and caring professional learning community
