Manager of Custodial Services

In addition, our District presently has eighteen school sites with on-site childcare services operated by independent providers. Our annual operating budget is approximately $120 million.

Under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Manager of Custodial Services is responsible for the supervision of all custodial staff engaged in the cleaning of school district facilities. This position requires being on-call to provide support to evening custodians and facility bookings as needed.

The successful applicant must demonstrate a high standard of professionalism with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse client group, including: custodians, educators, contractors, District staff, and the general public. The Manager of Custodial Services must facilitate active communication and contribute to an approachable, trusting, and inclusive workplace environment.

Responsibilities : Responsible for the supervision and management of custodial staff.

Establish and assess methods, guidelines, and standards of performance for Custodians.

Provide input to the Director of Operations and HR towards recruitment and selection of custodial staff.

Train custodians through the preparation of instruction manuals, demonstration, and training.

Monitor performance and methods to improve efficiency and resource management.

Manage and monitor assigned annual budgets including but not limited to supplies, flooring, and classroom furniture.

Manage the staff replacement budget by establishing work priorities and assigning staffing levels.

Primary contact with school administrators regarding custodial services and facility security.

Establish, maintain, and ensure compliance of safe work practices and procedures following WHMIS and WorkSafeBC regulations.

Conduct inspections and correct unsafe and/or hazardous conditions and identify areas requiring maintenance.

Oversee delivery services.

Supervise bookings and rentals of school facilities through the facilities booking clerk and ensure adequate custodial coverage, operation, and accounting.

As needed, the Manager of Custodial Services will provide coverage and support to other members of the Operations Management Team.

As required, the Manager of Custodial Services will be on-call for building and site incidents and emergencies including but not limited to the assessment of roads and school conditions during severe weather events.

Other related duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.The successful applicant will possess: A post-secondary diploma in a relevant field supplemented by a Building Services Worker certificate.

A minimum of three-years of supervisory experience in a unionized environment.

An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

Computer proficiency and literacy using Microsoft Office.

Demonstrated ability to problem solve technical and mechanical issues.

Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

Team player with the ability to lead by example while demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement.

Proven ability to respond and communicate in a positive, non-adversarial, and solutions-oriented approach.To Apply:
