Reports to and works under the direction of the Manager - Maintenance Services or Manager, Information Technology Services. Responsible for the oversight of one or more services or divisions within the Facilities Branch. Provides supervision of tradespersons and support staff within the functional area. Assigns resources including staff, vehicles, equipment, and supplies to carry out installation, maintenance, repair, and upgrading of District facilities, systems, and equipment.

DUTIES Schedules, organizes, assigns, and supervises the daily work of the tradespersons and supporting crew members. Organizes, schedules, and supervises daily activity of trades and contractors related to maintenance and projects. Monitors progress and performance of staff and contractors and initiates or recommends changes as required. Ensures contractors are appropriately qualified and hold appropriate insurance coverage.

Inspects work during progress, and upon completion, ensures compliance to specifications, plans, and/or standards.

Coordinates activities with schools, departments, administrators, and other staff to avoid or minimize disruptions.

Assists in the selection of staff by reviewing applications, conducting or participating in interviews, and conducting reference checks.

Responsible for the on-the-job orientation/safety training. Ensures consistency of employees' performance. Provides input into employee evaluation. Consults with relevant District staff, clients, contractors, related professionals, and regulatory agencies, as required. Applies consultation results to plans and operations.

Operates computer equipment as required. Maintains a variety of computerized records, status reports, and work schedules. Ensures staff within functional area are utilizing CMMS (WebWork) to track daily activities and report completion or status of work orders.

Provides input into budget development. Prepares cost estimates for labour and material for projects. Schedules and manages projects within predetermined guidelines. Prepares specifications and scope of work for contract tenders. Reviews budget reports and discusses variances with the Manager. Monitors budgets and advises the manager of potential of cost overruns or problems that would significantly affect the cost of work.

Ensures the safety measures are enforced on all work projects. Prepares relevant safe work procedures and ensures adherence by crews. Follows up to ensure completion of all accident and incident investigations and implementation of any resulting safety recommendations.

Liaises with District and school-based staff, outside agencies and other trades groups to clarify, explain, and/or coordinate work activities. May be required to oversee the work of contractors, and other non-District staff. Initiates and reviews tenders, recommends or selects contractors or service providers alone or in conjunction with Procurement Services.

Orders materials and ensures availability. Maintains inventory of parts, supplies, and equipment. Conduct reviews of inventories and reports specified investory values for year-end or as required.

Loads and unloads vehicles; transports materials and equipment as needed. Cleans, checks, and confirms operational safety of vehicle and ensures staff within functional area perform all required operational checks.

Remains current with changing technology, practices, and equipment.

Performs trades/technical duties. Applies safe work practices at all times. Performs duties required to ensure safety of building and occupants. Reports unsafe conditions.

Performs other related duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS

Successful completion of a Secondary school graduation program or equivalent. Completion of post-secondary technical diploma or certification in a recognized computer equivalent to 2 years such as the BCIT Technology Support Professional (TSP), CompTIA A+, CompTIA Networks+, Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA).

May be required to hold additional ticket(s)/certificate(s) relevant to the trade (e.g. "B" or "C" welding ticket, "A" or "B" gas ticket, backflow prevention, pesticide, Field Safety Representative (FSR)).

Minimum of 5 years recent experience working in the trade. Skill in the use of tools of the trade.

Experience supporting the following technologies is required: Firewall, Virtualization, Server and SAN Hardware, Wired and Wireless Network Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, Active Directory, Mobile Device Management, Backup Systems. (For the Foreperson-Trades - Computers and Electronics position).

Completion of a recognized supervisory courses and 2 years of recent supervisory experience in the trade or equivalent supervisory experience.

Ability to supervise and coordinate internally and externally staffed work crews.

Good interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to use judgment and tact when providing information.

Valid B.C. Driver's License. Safe driving record.

Experience in word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications and computerized maintenance management programs. Working knowledge of budgeting processes and reports.

Physically capable of performing the duties of the position.

Current and thorough knowledge of related standards, practices, regulations, codes, and methods.

Knowledge of WCB and WHMIS regulations. Safe work practices.

Some positions may require the knowledge of a language other than English.
