Queen Margaret's School is accepting applications for an Intern Teacher to join our Junior School faculty beginning August 2024. Intern Teachers work in the Junior School to support the day-to-day programs and classroom routines. They support the Junior School with ongoing projects, and other duties as required. Housing and meals may be provided as a taxable benefit, in addition to a salary for the academic year (September to June).This position is suited to individuals who have recently completed a degree in education. Applications must include proof of teacher certification and degrees obtained.Responsibilities

Support the Academic program as assigned. This would include working alongside teachers in the classroom, assisting with co-curricular clubs and sports, and working in the After School Care Program.

Supervision of students during class-time and recess breaks.

Providing assistance in K to 7 classrooms as needed

Serve as a Teacher-On-Call (TOC) for the academic year

Helping to create a safe and nurturing classroom environment

Be student-focused and possess a keen interest in promoting student progress

Foster a climate of respect and fairness for all students

Communicate effectively with homeroom teachers, faculty advisors, and learning support staff as required

Assist with the administration of Academic events such as assemblies

Attend Outdoor Education trips as assigned

Bring energy, enthusiasm and a love for learning to the classroom

Demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively alongside teacher colleagues

Demonstrate a willingness to learn and a desire to put students first

Attend meetings and school events as required

Lead co-curricular assignments with enthusiasm

Model the core values of the school

Be a role model for students

Collaborate with teacher colleagues to support a student-centered learning environment

Take an active part in all professional development activities, including staff meetings

Perform other duties as required or assigned

Qualifications

Graduate of a recognized B.Ed program / Teaching Qualification

Proof of BC Ministry of Education Teacher Certification (or proof of qualification in process)

Strong organizational and communication skills with a proven ability to communicate and develop relationships with a wide array of stakeholders (students, parents, teacher colleagues, community members, etc.

Commitment to continuous professional growth and professional learning

Ability to motivate students through meaningful curriculum and inquiry-driven learning

Demonstrated ability to develop strong learning relationships through the provision of a safe and trusting learning environment

Experience using student-centered approaches and commitment to regularly engage in experiential learning opportunities with students

Familiarity with relevant assessment strategies to provide continual feedback

Ability to effectively differentiate and be responsive to student needs

Experience, sensitivity and awareness of working within a multicultural environment

Willingness to embrace the ethos of an independent school and make a commitment to the extensive co-curricular life of an independent school

Preference will be given to candidates who also have the following skills and qualifications:

An interest/experience in working in a boarding environment

Basic First Aid/Childcare Emergency First Aid or higher

Valid driver's license and clean driver abstract
