Hours of Work : 1.0 FTE (37.5 hours per week) Monday-Friday

The Grande Yellowhead Public School Division is looking for a Wellness Navigator . The Wellness Navigator will work under the direction of the Wellness Navigator Supervisor as part of a term pilot project with Alberta Education that will commence August 28, 2023 and conclude July 31, 2025. This position will support the work to improve mental health supports and foster mental health wellbeing for students within the Division. The wellness navigator will assist the Division in this goal by empowering student voice and strengthening student self-efficacy.
This position supports Ecole Westhaven School and Mary Bergeron Elementary School which are located in Edson, Alberta.
Role and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be a collaborative person with proficiency in the area of student mental health and wellness. The responsibilities include: Working in partnership with BEST Coaches to support the development of resources, relationship building, and mentoring the growth/strength of student efficacy (as it relates to mental health).
Providing mental health programming in classes at a universal level. - The Wellness Navigator provides small targeted group programming to support student needs.
In partnership with our BEST coaches, will support staff in learning how to best support students struggling with mental health and wellness needs.
Work to find inroads into the curriculum to support in the classroom.
Support and facilitate information sessions - that are co-constructed with students - and develop events for days related to mental health such as PINK Shirt Day, Mental Health and Wellness Week and community events such as Mental Health and Wellness Fairs.
Work collaboratively with SYC and YPAR to ensure student voice is at the forefront.
Requirements
The successful candidate will: Have the ability to build positive relationships and is experienced in trauma informed practices
Have experience in planning interventions (universal, targeted and/or individualized mental health/indicators of mental health assessments, development of social-emotional competencies, mental health literacy, etc.)
Experience providing tools, training and resources to a community (school community).
Experience working with community support agencies, care providers and school staff who provide support to students; this includes processes for coordination and collaboration between schools and their communities.
