Environmental Lead Teacher

Temporary - August 22, 2023 to June 27, 2024

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

The Ideal Candidate would possess the following background, philosophy, and experience:

Bachelor of Education

Knowledge and experience with Environmental Education.

Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders; eg. teachers, students, administration, trustees, CUPE staff, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community agencies, environmental support organizations and funders.

Strong motivational, interpersonal and collaborative skills to ensure positive relationships with stakeholders.

Ability to travel throughout the Fort McMurray region.

Working with Green Scene to determine ongoing goals and action plans for both Green Scene and the Environmental Lead Teachers role.

Working with FMPSD schools mentoring teachers on how to embed Environmental Education within the curriculum they teach.

Facilitate Environmental Education sessions with classes and groups of students.

Mentor school Environment Facilitators and champions to form school environmental committees. These can include administrators, parents, staff, students and community members. Help them to create, implement and revise yearly, their schools environmental action plan.

Mentor school Environment Facilitators and champions in coordinating school-wide Environmental Education projects and events.

Research and share teaching resources, environmental activities and grant possibilities with teachers and schools.

Help develop a database of resources and lessons that support Environmental Education in FMPSD.

Working with FMPS Division - plan Environmental Education and Action professional development and awareness sessions.

Work with the Board and administration to review and develop FMPSD Environmental practices and goals.

Administration -Apply for funding for continuance of the position.
