Closing Date Open until FilledFort McMurray Composite High School is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our instructional team in the role of Life Skills Teacher .The Life Skills Program supports students in grades 7 - 12, who require special instructional services to help them learn and develop their potential. The Fort McMurray Public School Division is seeking caring and enthusiastic teachers who can enhance a safe, structured environment with consistent and regular routines for students who have physical, communication, social, sensory, behavioural or medical challenges in all developmental areas. This program offers opportunities for students to interact with others in school-based and community-based activities. This Life Skills program offers educators the opportunity to work in a strong team environment and provide inclusive learning opportunities for students to thrive in the process of their development.

Requirements:

Bachelor of Education with specialization in Special Education.

Experience with High Needs Students is required.

Desired Qualifications/Skills:

Experience with students with special needs is required.

Develop goals and objectives for multi-age classrooms for students with varying physical and emotional conditions.

Monitoring Behaviour patterns of children and applying appropriate interventions.

An ability to tailor an individualized curriculum along an outcomes-based/outcomes-developed continuum.

An ability to develop, implement and monitor IPPs for students with mild-moderate developmental disabilities that provides sequential learning and opportunities to integrate with same-age peers in different grades

May be required to assist with toileting, diapering, food preparation, Feeding, and some other procedures, such as G-Tubes, and administering medication, etc

Other goals for students include increasing independence, enhancing self-esteem and improving social/interpersonal skills.

Effective organizational skills and classroom management - Supervision and planning for Educational Assistants.

An ability and commitment to work as a member of a team in a collaborative work environment.

An ability to establish productive relationships with staff and parents

A commitment to the Assessment for Learning model
