Closing Date Open Until FilledThe Vocational Individualized Program (VIP) is designed for students identified with a cognitive or developmental disability who require social skills support. It provides a modified academic program in the core subject areas of Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. Students continue to be included in other classes and/or optional courses. Each student meeting the criteria for this program is provided an Individualized Program Plan (IPP); an IPP is a concise plan of action designed to support each student's individual special educational needs.

Requirements: Bachelor of Education with specialization in Special Education. Specialization in Special Education is an asset, as is experience with high needs students.

Desired Qualifications/Skills:

Experience with students with special needs, an asset.

Develop goals and objectives for multi-age classrooms for students with varying physical and emotional conditions.

Monitoring Behaviour patterns of children and applying appropriate interventions.

An ability to tailor an individualized curriculum along an outcomes-based/outcomes-developed continuum.

May be required to administer medication.

An ability to develop, implement and monitor IPPs for students with mild-moderate developmental disabilities that provides sequential learning and opportunities to integrate with same-age peers in different grades.

Other goals for students include increasing independence, enhancing self-esteem and improving social/interpersonal skills.

Effective organizational skills and classroom management - Supervision and planning for Educational Assistants.

An ability and commitment to work as a member of a team in a collaborative work environment.

An ability to establish productive relationships with staff and parents.

A commitment to the Assessment for Learning model.
