Description :

The Director of Curriculum and Instruction is part of the senior management team in Anglophone School District West. This leadership position is focused on the development, implementation, monitoring, and support of K-12 curriculum to ensure adherence to prescribed curricula, learning outcomes, achievement standards, and supporting guidelines. Supporting and implementing better practices in assessment and instruction which have the greatest impact on student learning is a key responsibility. Leading the development of a professional learning plan which supports the achievement goals of the district, and the implementation of provincial curriculum is another key role. The Director of Curriculum and Instruction is a direct liaison to the Curriculum Branch of EECD and works collaboratively with other Directors on provincial initiatives. This position will also collaborate with the district senior management team. The Director of Curriculum and Instruction will work with the Curriculum team for the planning of in-service and training programs for educators and monitoring of student achievement. This position will also provide leadership in the development, implementation, and support of the District Improvement Plan. Reporting to the Superintendent, the Director of Curriculum and Instruction leads a team of Subject Coordinators and Leads/Coaches. Currently the following Subject Coordinators report to this position: Coordinators of Literacy, Numeracy, French Second Language, Social Studies/Enrichment/Fine Arts, Personal Wellness/Physical Education, Science and Coop, Technology and Skilled Trades, English as and Additional Language.

Major Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Organizing and supporting the implementation of all provincial curriculum K-12. This includes the monitoring of objectives and outcomes established through District and Department Polices.

Serving on provincial committees to assist in the development of provincial curriculum and programs.

Organizing, coordinating, and implementing staff training/professional learning

Supporting and providing assistance to the Director of Schools and Principals regarding matters relating to effective implementation of programs and services that support quality instruction in schools.

Managing, administering, and auditing budgets and resources related to curriculum implementation and training programs.

Supervising staff in Education Centres.

Communication and collaboration with parents, community groups, and other agencies that require information or direction.

Supporting the Superintendent, as required, including work related to the District Education CouncilQualifications and Experience Master of Education with course work in curriculum development and supervision of instruction. A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in teaching in the public school system and in progressive leadership roles. The incumbent will have demonstrated experience in the writing of curriculum documents, previous experience in the organization delivery of professional development or training programs, experience in the preparation of reports and presentation to staff or the public. Previous experience in school administration or leadership roles would be considered an asset. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

Salary:

This is a Management and Non-Union Position (12-month) and is compensated as Pay Band 9, with an annual salary range of $114,244 $125,736 per annum.
