The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board is recruiting casual adult ESL instructors to teach in adult non-credit ESL and LINC classes.

Casual Adult English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructors

The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board is recruiting casual adult ESL instructors to teach in adult non-credit ESL and LINC classes.

Summary: Reporting to the ESL/LINC Program Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible to instruct English as a Second Language and/or Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada to adult learners, from Literacy to CLB 7. Candidates are needed for casual teaching and temporary assignments Monday-Friday in day school, night school, and summer school.

Opportunities to teach in temporary evening classes on either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday may be available contingent on funding and enrollment from September to December 2024. Base Wage: $32.52 according to the OSSTF ESL Collective AgreementQualifications:

Current TESL Ontario Certification (OCELT) is required.

Completion of CLB Bootcamp and Introduction to PBLA from the Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks (recommended within 6 months of hire into casual pool and required for hire into a permanent day or night position)

Knowledge and experience with the Canadian Language Benchmarks

Knowledge and /or application of Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA)

Exceptional interpersonal skills to work effectively with teaching colleagues, administrative staff, and the management team

Excellent practice and knowledge in the principles of adult learning

Demonstrated experience using Learning Management Systems

Demonstrated experience using technology as a teaching and learning tool

Excellent communication and cross-cultural skills

Available to work on short notice for in-person day and evening classes
