Description:

Reporting to the Manager of Capital Renewal, as the successful candidate, you will be responsible for the energy management and facilities regulatory compliance portfolios within the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board. Your thorough understanding of building energy requirements and effective strategies for control will result in reductions in energy consumption and carbon footprint, thereby promoting stewardship of creation, efficiencies and a positive environment within our system and greater community.

In addition, you will manage other compliance and reporting requirements within the facilities management department, including but not limited to: annual energy and greenhouse gas reporting, asbestos in buildings management, ground water testing, backflow valve testing, and life safety systems protocols. There is a requirement of participation on a weekly after hours on-call rotation approximately every eight weeks.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: ENERGY MANAGEMENT

Energy tracking & monitoring Utilizing a utilities database for energy tracking and monitoring, prioritize facilities and recommend efficiency improvement initiatives. Maintenance and operating schedules Review the control systems, operating schedules and maintenance practices at facilities to identify operational savings. Develop practices and programs to enhance energy efficiency. Examples might include: remote BAS monitoring and management, facility HVAC systems re-commissioning, BAS analytics software add-ons, etc.

Energy conservation opportunities & action plan Identify, assess, prioritize and recommend energy conservation projects including capital improvement projects and operational and maintenance related. This will include the preparation of business cases to justify capital expenditures and the preparation of applications for available financial incentives.

Energy conservation behaviors and business process improvements Work to create and foster a sustainable energy management culture within the board through working with School Stewardship of Creation teams and other committees.

Reporting Complete the regulatory mandated annual energy and water consumption report and five-year plans for compliance with the Ontario Electricity Act (formerly under the Green Energy Act O. Reg 397/11) and create timely informative reports for the Board of Trustees.

FACILITIES COMPLIANCE Assume the responsibility of managing and facilitating information related to compliance mandates in facilities management, including, but not limited to, requirements under Ontario Electricity Act annual reporting; O. Reg 278/05 Designated Substance Asbestos; O. Reg 213/07 Fire Code; O. Reg 243/07 Safe Drinking Water; O. Reg 102/94 Waste Audits; Ministry of Environment Ground Water Testing (3 sites); Municipal By-Law orders and compliance (e.g. Backflow Preventer testing). GENERAL This position is required to ADDITIONAL DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

Qualifications: Certified Energy Manager (CEM)

Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in a related discipline. (Other combinations of education and work experience will be considered.)

Minimum of 3-4 years work experience with building systems and technology (especially HVAC/BAS) with an energy management focus

Demonstrated experience using RETScreen and UCD software is an advantage
