St. John Paul II School, Kenora, ON Position Summary: Since 2014, the KCDSB has coordinated and facilitated Summer Learning Programs (SLPs) in

its schools. Backed by research conducted for the Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat, Ministry

of Education, which revealed that SLPs reduce summer learning loss and build self-confidence

for primary students. Most students enrolled in summer learning show increased enthusiasm for learning and improved achievement levels. These and other successes of the SLPs have been well documented both qualitatively and quantitatively.

A notable aspect of the program is support for students and parents who experience more economic and social challenges in their daily lives, enabling them to build positive and ongoing relationships with both teachers and school administrators. The KCDSB SLP is a vibrant learning program with an innovative staff focused on increasing student faith development, well-being and achievement. SLP Teachers and Support Staff will

be responsible for planning an effective program that meets the individuals needs of students. Duties:

Act professional and support the schools safe, inclusive and accepting learning

environment by being a positive role model at all times Responsible for carrying out duties assigned by the Summer Learning Program

Acting Administrators, Teachers, and Education Assistants Responsible for supporting the needs of students

Collaborate with staff on a regular basis to review students programs

Responsible for food preparation daily

Actively participate in planning

Monitor summer learning program students in all school-related settings, including

field trips

Qualifications:

Must be enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution currently or for the

fall semester, or have graduated within six months by your first day of employment Experience working with students with varying degrees of behavioural, social and

emotional needs is an asset Strong collaboration skills

Ability to adapt as required to meet the needs of a diverse school community
