Central Position with Area Responsibilities

(1) Elementary (7/8) Guidance/Pathways Teachers

This position will be available for a one-year (1) term for the 2024-2025 school year, with a potential for renewing without a posting.

Kenora Area - based out of Beaver Brae IntermediateQualifications:

The successful applicant must possess: A valid OCT Certificate of Qualification;

Intermediate Division Qualifications;

A minimum of three years successful teaching experience with preference given to the intermediate division;

Guidance Qualifications are preferred or a plan to obtain them.Desired Qualities/Skills:

Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following: Demonstrated experience as an exemplary teacher;

Demonstrated expertise in equity and inclusion;

Demonstrated experience working with FNMI learners;

Demonstrated experience and understanding of the importance of building relationships with students, families, community connections, and other stakeholders;

Knowledge, demonstrated experience, and training in current instructional and assessment practices;

Experience in co-planning to identify, implement, and assess the impact of targeted instructional strategies to improve student achievement;

Deep understanding of how effective instruction and assessment strategies can be applied to support student learning across a variety of content areas;

Demonstrated experience using a variety of information technologies to support learning and teaching;

Understanding of secondary graduation requirements;

Ability to take initiative, to work well independently, and to communicate effectively as a member of a highly motivated team.

Responsibilities: Advocate for students in order to help them overcome challenges they may face in academic achievement, well-being, engagement in school, relationships, attendance and all barriers which interfere with learning and success in secondary school;

Work collaboratively with the Secondary Academics Administrator on initiatives and supports related to the Pathways role;

Work with secondary schools (incl. Guidance, Graduation Coaches, Student Success, SERTs, and Administrators) to support Grade 8 transition to high school including Grade 9 course selection;

Kenora area only work with Elementary Administrators, SERTs, Grade 6 classroom teachers to support the Grade 6 transition to Grade 7 at Beaver Brae Intermediate;

Work collaboratively with other Elementary Guidance Pathways Teachers to create and deliver programming, both in and outside the classroom for Guidance and Career Education in Grade 7 & 8 classes;

Work with the Secondary School Academic Principal and KPDSB Mental Health Leader to promote and implement programming around student mental health (i.e., PreVenture and other programs);

Work collaboratively with the Leader of Experiential Learning, SHSM Itinerant Technological Education Teacher, and Classroom Teachers to plan and implement experiential learning opportunities;

Support students to identify their personal interests, strengths, needs, and aspirations and in using this knowledge of themselves to inform their choices of programs and learning opportunities (i.e., skilled trades, leadership, de-streaming);

Provide experiences for students to learn more about all postsecondary destinations apprenticeship training, college, community living, university, and the workplace;

Support IPP completion and myBlueprint for all Grade 7 & 8 students;

Assist with homework and other study-related issues, including helping to coordinate tutoring as necessary;

Organize guidance programs as needed (social skills, learning skills seminars, etc.);

Other duties as assigned.
