Community Schools Coordinator Project Black Feather Full-Time, 2-Year Term (Exempt) Do you want to make a difference in the lives of students? School District No. 35 (Langley) is looking for a talented Community Coordinator to help lead that team to work collaboratively to maintain a healthy, safe, and positive learning environment for all students and staff in supporting the mandate of Project Black Feather.

The opportunity:

Reporting to the Principal of Project Black Feather, the exempt position of Community Coordinator works to support community development, connectedness, and life-long learning. As an active member of the school leadership team, the Community Coordinator assists in aligning the districts goals with the goals and elements of Project Black Feather. The Community Coordinator is responsible for working with students, families, school staff, district staff and community partners to provide programs, services, and events that strengthen, support, and empower vulnerable students and their families. Key responsibilities include: Work collaboratively with community partners, school staff and families to provide services and transitions between services. This includes working some evenings and weekends.

Provide consultation to School Based Teams, District Based Teams and Integrated Case Management Teams.

Knowledge of basic needs research and programming, normative development and youth psychopathology in relation to youth mental health and concurrent disorders.

Conduct and coordinate basic needs assessments, analysis and strategic planning for identified youth and their families in crisis.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of students engagement and interventions.

Demonstrate significant experience ensuring that all services are provided in accordance with relevant legal, ethical and professional standards.

Work with Project Black Feathers Principal to identify emerging student gang related trends and community interventions.

Actively contribute and participate in professional development and training related to Project Black Feather program.

Will provide leadership and direction in the development and implementation of youth intervention programming.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, experience, and attributes: A degree in a family and youth intervention services related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum 5 years of post-degree experience in the provision of mental health community services for children, youth and families.

Knowledge of basic needs research and community programming, normative development and youth psychopathology in relation to youth mental health and concurrent disorders.

Demonstrated expertise and strong working knowledge of attachment theory, social and cognitive development and generational adverse childhood experiences in relation to community programming.

Able to work independently and take initiative in developing new programs & opportunities.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with both site and district staff, families, community partners, agencies, businesses, and service professionals.

Demonstrated experience coordinating interventions to support students and their families mental health and well-being, including the Connect Parent Program.

The ability to manage multiple priorities independently.

Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.

Possess strong computer skills, primarily with the full Microsoft Office 365 suite.

Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills

Experience developing and supervising recreation and community programs.

Knowledge and understanding of District Guiding Documents including the Strategic Plan and related community plans.

Understanding of the First Peoples Principles of Learning and how to embed them in programming.

Possession of a valid Drivers License and reliable vehicle, as travel to different sites within the District will be necessary.
