SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

(0.4 TEMPORARY ) School District No. 42 (SD42) meets the learning needs of approximately 16,000 students of all ages in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, and is defined by its determination to keep student learning and growth at the heart of all its decisions. With an annual budget of over $200M and over 2,000 staff, the school district provides K-12 educational services in 22 elementary schools, six secondary schools, and two alternate schools. It also provides a variety of certificate programs and relevant quality life-long learning opportunities through Ridge Meadows College and Continuing Education.

SD42 is looking for a qualified Secondary Special Education Teacher for a 0.4 FTE Temporary position effective as soon as possible at Maple Ridge Secondary School. As a Support Teacher you possess successful teaching experience and coursework in special education that includes assessment, adapting and modifying curriculum and teaching students with special needs. A degree or diploma in special education would be preferred, as would coursework in behaviour, learning disabilities, and other specific areas of special education, or experience working with students with special needs. Prospective candidates to this position must be willing to undergo a pre-screening by Learning Services.

The applicant will possess: Certification with the Teacher Regulation Branch,

Experience designing, adapting or modifying curriculum,

Ability to write, implement and evaluate positive behaviour support plans, strategies and IEPs,

Ability to conduct assessment, including Level B tests,

Ability to teach function life skills and use technology to support student needs,

Ability to work as part of a strong collaborative team with excellent interpersonal, communication

and collaborative skills.

This is a 0.4 FTE temporary position working Tuesdays and Thursdays, until the return of the incumbent, but not beyond June 30, 2025.
