Title of Immediate Supervisor: Supervisor, Maintenance Services

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Supervisor, Maintenance Services, the Glazier is responsible for fabricating, assembling and repairing internal and external glass structures including, but not limited to, frames, hardware, wall facings, windows skylights and doors.

Major Functions and Responsibilities Repairs, in accordance with work orders, the internal and external glass structures of Board facilities to ensure that all glass structures are in a proper state of repair.

Conducts preliminary assessment on specified repairs and determines the necessary equipment, materials and estimated time required to perform the tasks.

Repairs and services windows skylights, doors, and wall facings within school buildings and other Board facilities.

Investigates rain entry through building envelope and performs repairs.

Repairs and replaces window hardware.

Cuts, fits, and installs glass in wood and metal frames by means of mastic, screws or decorative molding.

Records time and materials required to perform necessary repairs in order to assist the Plant Department in the costing of each task.

Fabricates custom made glass structures as required for Board facilities.

Performs any of the above repair duties in response to regular maintenance and/or to emergency calls so as to ensure safety, minimize disruption, and maintain the security of Board facilities.

Performs general repairs on all other glass related areas not specified above.

Provides input to the Plant Department for the development and continued updating of the preventive maintenance programs for all Board facilities.

Advises the Supervisor, Maintenance Services of the need for changes to operational procedures and policies to make the system run more smoothly.

Responsible for the daily maintenance and upkeep of the assigned Board vehicle and ensures the vehicle is kept clean, as well as advises the Supervisor of any mechanical deficiencies.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Maintenance Services. Qualifications, Education, Experience, and Knowledge Valid Glazier certificate issued by the Ontario Ministry of Education and Training or an equivalent Canadian inter-provincial certification.

Minimum grade 12 secondary school education or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Valid Ontario Driver's Licence.

Three years experience in glazing.

Sound knowledge of general glazing codes and regulations.

Knowledge of safety procedures and equipment

Good working knowledge of all types of glazing systems including knowledge of all relevant tools and equipment.

Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Good oral and written communication in English.

Impact of Errors Incorrect actions could result in significant loss of time and resources and could impact on the health and safety of others

Improper glazing could cause injury to students and staff.

Incorrect use of tools and equipment could impact on the health and safety of others

Supervision Directs the activities of any assigned maintenance personnel.

External: Liaison with suppliers to purchase materials required.

Working Conditions Required to work at heights and operate scissor lift.

Required to work alone in a self-managing role or in a team environment.

Working indoors and outdoors in an environment that may be characterized by excessive exposure to a wide range of environmental conditions such as heat, dust, noise, fumes and changes in temperature and weather.
