Reporting to the Student Information Systems Coordinator, the Systems Specialist role involves a diverse mix of data integrity procedures, systems development, and process improvement reflecting the Division-wide scope of our customers. The Systems Specialist implements key business initiatives, including the maintenance of confidential information and provides basic user support. The Systems Specialist applies system-thinking, business acumen and experience within the Public Education sector to ensure a secure, reliable, robust digital environment.
FTE: 1.0 FTE; 7.0 hrs/day; Monday to Friday; Full-Time Temporary
Initial Assignment:
The Systems Specialist must carry out professional responsibilities and provide services in accordance with the Sturgeon School Divisions policies, ensuring that these activities are within the limits of their knowledge, experience and skill. The Systems Specialist is responsible for working with staff and external vendors. Duties of this role include but are not limited to:
Student Information System and Integrated Applications Supporting staff through quality assurance, delivering appropriate training, resolving tier 1 issues, communicating and liaising with stakeholders
Executing service and systems improvements that create benefits for stakeholders and generate financial benefits for the Division
Monitor system alignment regarding good practices of data security and the protection of privacy in alignment with provincial and federal legislation, policy and guidelines (i.e. Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act)
Other related duties as assigned Qualifications & Experience: Post-secondary education in a related discipline
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Powerschool Student Information System
Knowledge of Oracle, SQL query, scripting and Powerschool reporting skills
internal controls and risk management Experience with Google Suite of Applications for Education or Business
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of Products
Excellent organizational, planning and project management skills
The ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision
Excellent interpersonal and written communication
Excellent team and customer service skills
The following additional skills would be an asset: School business or system management experience
Process improvement, project management, systems support/super-user experience
Change management/change agent experience
Previous Student Information System experience
Project Management (PMP) Certification or Training
SchoolMessenger Data Administration
Equivalencies that consist of a combination of education, knowledge, skills and abilities to formal education requirements may be considered.
