Special Education Coordinator
At St. Joseph Elementary faith and learning go hand in hand, leading young people to be the best they can be. By following the BC Ministry of Education curriculum while integrating daily religious learning and spiritual practices our students are wholly developed in mind, body and soul. With that in mind, St. Joseph Elementary School is seeking a student support Special Education Coordinator to join our staff (FTE to be determined) starting the 2024-2025 school year .
Our successful candidate will: Have completed advanced study in Special Education courses for children with exceptionalities, including but not limited to: Intellectual and Physical disabilities
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Neuro-developmental disabilities
Sensory impairments
Behaviour disorders and mental illness
Chronic health impairments
Have previous administration experience, particularly in Special Education: Assessment of Learning Difficulties and quality assessment practices (Level B Assessment, differentiated instruction, criterion referenced grading)
Individual Education Plans
Chair school-based team meetings with staff, families and various specialists as needed
Plan and supervise work/schedules of education assistants
Maintain student files accurately Have current/recent training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
Have knowledge of community services available that support students with Special Needs and their families in the district and the province of BC, with experience providing liaison with external agencies between school and home.
Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications: Commitment to Catholic Education
Identification with Catholic life and participation in the community of a Catholic parish
Desire to create positive learning environments for inclusive education
Experience working with Special Education technology or willing to attend training to enhance skills in this area
Training or willing to train in areas of conflict resolution, collaborative problem solving, positive decision making and anger management strategies
Good organization and communication skills, with ability to meet deadlines
Work collaboratively and supportively with children and families, colleagues and administration in a team environment
Ability to use discretion when dealing with confidential matters

BC Teachers' Certificate and TQS (if applicable) - Candidates must possess a valid BC teaching certificate or be eligibl e for BC certification through the Teacher Regulation Branch of the Ministry of Education.
Recent evaluation report from previous employer/practicum supervisor.
Official University Transcripts (photocopy).Catholic applicants must provide: Certificate of Catholic baptism, or RCIA Certificate.

CISND Pastoral Reference form
As a condition of employment, successful candidates will be required to complete the Diocese Safe Environment training and submit the following: Certified statement(s) of previous teaching experience
