We are seeking a creative, dynamic, committed professional to join our team:

Team Lead, Payroll100% Regular

Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week

Union Exempt Level 6: $75,000 to $88,200Reporting to the Team Manager, Payroll Division, the Payroll Team Lead provides leadership, support, and mentoring to the payroll team. The Team Lead will be responsible for audit controls, remittance of all statutory and non-statutory payroll deductions, and all accounting aspects in order to ensure accurate and timely production of T4 and T4A statements. The incumbent will also assist with managing all aspects of the Payroll Division in order to deliver weekly pays on time.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Prepares payroll related payments including remittances to Federal and Provincial government agencies, unions, and pension providers.

Reviews the payroll register to ensure that deductions from the payroll system for CPP, EI, income tax, OMERS, TPP, Federation dues and levies, charities, and various other agencies are accurate.

Performs monthly account reconciliations.

Runs accounting reports to interface weekly payroll files into general ledger on Finance software.

Performs weekly reconciliations of tax slips to payroll registers and to Canada Revenue Agency remittances.

Reviews and audits internal system parameters controlling all Payroll payments and deductions.

Manages the activities of a large Payroll and Pension team, including interviewing and hiring.

Qualifications

Post Secondary Diploma in Accounting and 5 years of related accounting/payroll experience, preferably in a municipal or educational environment.

Payroll Compliance Professional or Payroll Leadership Professional Designation is required. Accounting designation (CPA) would be an asset.

Knowledge of integrated payroll systems; accounting and payroll processes, functions, and principles;

Knowledge of ScotiaConnect, budgeting and accounting systems; SQL/GQL and Report Writer

Knowledge of governing acts and legislation such as Employment Standards Act, Canada Revenue Agency Regulations Act, Service Canada Reporting, and the Ontario Labor Relations Act.

Experience working in a unionized environment, and good understanding of collective agreements.

Leadership skills for training, mentoring and directing the payroll team,

Interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) required to clarify, instruct or provide information, direction to others; including interacting to establish and maintain professional relationships within the District;

Tact, diplomacy and discretion required.

Organizational skills, including time management techniques for planning and organizing workload, juggling multiple demands, schedules and payroll deadlines;

Project management skills.

Initiative and judgment required for decision-making, problem and conflict resolution.

Computer technology skills, including proficiency in word processing, databases, and spreadsheets applications. Proficient using google applications and human resources information systems/databases. Application Process
