1.0 Temporary Educational Assistant:

Cooperative Education Support for Students with Disabilities Pilot

Effective Immediately to June 27, 2024

Under 90 days

Open to All Applicants, including Permanent Educational Assistants without prejudice and precedent

L ocation: Laurentian Learning Centre

The Educational Assistant duties of this position are likely to include, but are not limited to, working with students with autism, behavioural exceptionalities, physical and developmental disabilities. The position will involve working as a team member in a special education program to provide individualized supports for students with disabilities during their cooperative education placements and help students gain practical experience in an area of interest.

This Temporary position will directly support students with disability to pursue cooperative education credits within a variety of placement opportunities including but not limited to placements in technological education settings and the skilled trades. This Educational Assistant position will include working with employers within the workplace environment to promote awareness of inclusive practices and equal opportunities for students with disabilities. Qualifications: Two-year post-secondary certificate or diploma in the social services field

Experience in inclusion support and community engagement with youth with disabilities are considered assets

Knowledge/Skills Required: Experience working with a variety of student exceptionalities including but not limited to: medically complex, autism, developmental disabilities and physical disabilities

Broad knowledge of a variety of support strategies includingABA(Applied Behavioural Analysis), Behaviour Management Systems,CPS (Collaborative Proactive Solutions) and Augmentative Communication

Demonstrated ability to effectively support students in transitionand/orimplement programmingin consultation with Co-Operative Education Teaching Team, Central Behavioural Support Team and respective therapists i.e. speech, sensory, occupational, physiotherapy

Knowledge and respect for Indigenous teachings and culture

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of a school-based team

Engage with students to identify and remove barriers to their successful acquisition and participation in cooperative education courses.

Awareness of inclusion best practices and strong ability to advocate with and for equal opportunities for students with disabilities

Rate of Pay: $20.80 per hour
