School Psychologist - Position of Special Responsibility

NATURE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

School Psychologists are assigned to each school to provide support to students with additional learning, social-emotional, sensory, health and/or behavioural needs.

School Psychology services include: Direct consultation with students, parents, school and district staff, other professionals and community agencies e.g. BC Childrens Hospital

Assistance in monitoring student progress and contributing to the design and evaluation of an Individual Education Plan

Learning and behavior assessment and comprehensive psycho - educational assessment

Review of private assessments to determine learning needs; assist in referral for district programs, exam adjudication requests and Ministry identification of special needs

Consultation and collaboration with the school based resource team (SBRT)SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS Masters of Education in School Psychology.

Certification/eligibility for certification as a School Psychologist with BCASP.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with teachers, parents, school administrators and community agencies.

Demonstrated skill in completing psycho-educational assessments.

Successful experience and demonstrated skill in curriculum modifications and appropriate teaching strategies for the inclusion of adolescents with special needs.

Successful experience and demonstrated skill in designing Individual Education Plans for students with a full range of special needs.

Successful experience and demonstrated skill in providing a variety of in-service workshops addressing issues in special education.

High level of experience and knowledge in assessment literacy.

Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of elementary and secondary school curricula.GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS, ATTRIBUTES and EXPERIENCE Strong commitment to excellence in teaching and demonstrated teaching ability.

Demonstrated ability to design and implement a variety of assessment practices to measure and monitor student progress effectively.

Strategies to identify learning difficulties and implement effective intervention to maximize academic success.

Demonstrated successful experience supporting the success of all learners in an inclusive environment.

Strong organizational skills.

Excellent oral communications, written communication, and group facilitation skills.

Superior work ethic and social emotional competencies, excellent reflective judgment, and commitment to building effective learning communities.

Comprehensive understanding of curriculum.

Confidence and proficiency in using instructional organizers, concepts, and strategies that actively engage all students in learning.

Ability to positively influence instruction, curriculum, assessment, and social-emotional learning practices in a collaborative environment.

Knowledge and understanding of the application of relevant computer technologies to teaching and learning.

Willingness to be involved in professional development, with an ongoing commitment to learn and implement new methodologies and strategies.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and staff to enhance the school as a learning community.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Certification by the BC Association of School Psychologists (BCASP).
