The Program Director, Overnight Camp is responsible for the supervision, well-being and safety of all campers living in boarding houses. Reporting to the Director, Camp Programs, this position will support the Camp Programs mission to create an exceptional on-campus living experience. The Program Director, Overnight Camp will assist with the training, supervision and evaluation of the Summer Boarding Staff and will be residing on campus August 6 August 26, 2022 at Appleby College. This senior staff role will be supporting day camp programs and overnight camp administration between June 27- Aug. 5, 2022 in a daytime, on-campus capacity.

Specific Accountabilities (Pre-Camp): Responsibilities would include approximately 1.5-2 cumulative weeks of pre-summer work of camp planning, organizing and purchasing supplies between December 2021 and June 2022

Attend monthly Senior Staff meetings December through June Work closely with the Camp Director to build Overnight Camp Program including staffing, activity and recreational schedules Ownership of dedicated email address throughout contract term for parent communications and program inquiries

Contribute to the strategic planning and development of program based on research in the community, competitors, enrollment trends. Assist at local camp fairs, supporting camp booths or programs organized for specific events. Develop and deliver training modules that support the professional development of staff and volunteers working in the overnight program. Ensure Applebys Mutual Respect policy is communicatedSpecific Accountabilities (Summer: July/August): Supervise and provide schedules of activities and responsibilities to all summer Boarding Staff

Nurture a positive overnight environment by leading, motivating and developing strong teams

Ensure all facilities, equipment and programs are managed in accordance with the practices of Appleby College

Assist in creating a community that is conducive to campers personal success & ensuring safety and supervision

Provide support to situations that develop in the boarding houses as they relate to logistics, emotional distress, discipline violations, accidents, physical or mental illness etc. while collaborating with the Director, Camp Programs

Be first aid response and behavior management response presence for all Overnight Camps.

Acts as a parent liaison to build relationships with camper families and to ensure satisfaction and drive increased customer service

Ensure staff members are appropriately addressing and documenting behavioral issues and any incidents or concerns

Create and follow a framework, organize and run afternoon and evening activities for campers on daily basis as well as any camp staff meetings

Follow emergency procedure for medical and other applicable issues

Document all communication with parents, campers and staff

Work with Summer Camp Day staff to ensure all Overnight Campers are fully engaged in camp, arrive on time and Coordinate attendance with Camp Office

Provide formal and informal evaluation and feedback regarding performance and expectations to the Staff as well as coaching and mentoring

Work cooperatively and participate in camp activities where required

Observe and promote all rules and regulations established for the program to include Applebys Mutual Respect policy

Seek assistance and advice from the Director of Camps or appointed supervisor and ensure all decisions made have the appropriate approvals

Participate in all required training related to health and safety as provided

Ensuring all Covid-19 Safety protocols and Government regulations are being followedPost Camp Review Debrief after Summer is completed

Suggestions/Ideas for the following summer

Create Lessons Learned/Best practices documentationKnowledge and Skills: Minimum of 3 years post-secondary education required

Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Recreation, Child Development, Leisure Studies and/or Education is preferred.

Senior leadership experience in a similar overnight camp/recreation program setting is required

Strong skills and demonstrated experience working with children ages 10-14

Related work experience/teaching in camp or educational environments.

Demonstrate strong organizational capabilities and necessary confidence and be able to host games and activities in front of large groups.

Proven ability to mentor young staff to work effectively with children and youth in a camp setting

Strong independent work ethic, self-awareness of appropriate instances in which to escalate

Training and work experience building relationships with instructors, campers, camp families and staff.

Current Standard First Aid Training and CPR- C or higher required. (certified on or after September 2020)

Supplemental student safety/mental health training considered a strong assetBronze Cross and/or NLS certification in lifeguarding is an asset

Workplace Requirements: As a condition of employment, if over 18 yrs. a criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening is required

Must reside on Campus for each working night (Sunday to Thursday evenings from Aug. 6 26, 2022). This senior staff role will be supporting day camp programs and overnight camp administration between June 27- Aug. 5, 2022

Valid Ontario Drivers License required to transport students using the Appleby College vans

Valid Standard First Aid and CPR C (certified on, or after Sept. 2020) is required

Successful candidates must attend the required training sessions from Attend mandatory training June 3 5, 2022, June 18, 19, 2022

Part-time pre-camp prep work to be completed from December 2021 includes: Monthly Evening Meetings Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar, April (Exact date/time TBD) and Individual homework
