Adult English as a Second Language (ESL) Hairstyling Instructor - Casual Assignment

OPSEU 423 We are looking for part-time English as a Second Language Instructor with experience in the hairstyling industry to teach online to support our ESL Night school program until the end of June 2024. This position reports to the Coordinator in the program and candidates would reside within the greater Ottawa region. This is an 8 hour a week assignment - Tuesday,Thursday 3 hours and Wednesday 2 hours.

The assignment involves: Using various tools/apps to teach language skills and test preparation skills online

Create and use content for the specific curricula that is appropriate to the CLB levels of the course

Implement and help track learner skills and progress

Ability to interact occasionally at a professional level as a representative of the Continuing Education department with other departments and various administrative staff, if required

Other duties as assigned

Requirements: Valid TESL Ontario Certification or proof of TESL Ontario accreditation through the PLAR process (current or completed) and be a member in good standing

Previous general ESL teaching experience with various CLB or ESL Literacy levels

Demonstrated strong expertise in using learning technologies effectively to teach various CLB level ESL or LINC with adults (include specific examples and describe in your CV and/or letter of application)

Certification in Ontario and experience as a Hairstylist or Hairstyling instructor

Proven collaboration, cross-cultural, and instructional design planning skills

Any of the following are considered assets: Experience working in Job Readiness / Employment / Skills Training programs

Work Experience in various industry(ies) or sector(s) or trade(s), ideally in a training or lead role

Proof of ability to integrate those skills into a curriculum

Experience working with employers and in program promotion

Candidates will be selected on the basis of their qualifications and experience.

The salary for this position is $40.18 an hour (plus 4% vacation pay and 3.8% statutory holiday pay).

The start date is as soon as possible with an anticipated end date of June 28, 2024.
