We're seeking a talented Communications Officer to join our team for a temporary assignment. As one of the Communications Officers on our team, you'll be at the forefront of helping to share the OCSB's amazing stories of educational excellence, utilizing various communication channels to engage stakeholders and promote our initiatives.

Under the direction of the Manager of Communications, the Communications Officer will be responsible for, but not limited to:

Provide leadership and training to school website administrators to design and support school Google sites

Provide design guidance and support for the department and subject area Google sites housed within the OCSB intranet

Collaborate with the Learning Technologies Department to determine and support operational practices for implementing new and evolving communication tools (including SchoolMessenger)

Research and craft compelling content for diverse platforms, including blogs, websites, social media, and more, to spotlight achievements and events within the OCSB community

Assist in organizing and executing promotional campaigns to raise awareness of key initiatives

Stay updated on emerging communication trends, technologies, and best practices to enhance our strategies continuously

Assist with crisis communication efforts by helping the Communications team collect relevant information

Skills & Qualifications:

Degree, diploma, or equivalent post secondary education in Communications, Public Relations, Digital Technology, or a related field

3-5 years of experience in Communications, preferably in the education sector or a similar field

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for various audiences and platforms

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and an aptitude for learning new technology

Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively

Creative, critical thinker with a knack for generating innovative ideas and solutions

Strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines

Working knowledge of Google Suite and related tools, especially Google Sites

Understanding and commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the Ottawa Catholic School Board

An equivalent combination of experience and education may also be considered

The following skills are considered assets:

Knowledge of graphic design principles and experience with design software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc)

Knowledge of School Messenger Communicate or similar mass communication system

Knowledge in social media management, content creation, and analytics

This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) temporary position with a starting annual salary of $81,639 (subject to review) plus 4% in lieu of vacation. Salary will be prorated as applicable based on the FTE and duration of the assignment.

The anticipated start date for this position is July 2, 2024 with an end date of August 22, 2025.
