MAINTENANCE I PLUMBER

12 months per year, 40 hours/week

Pay Band 10B-CA - $33.30 - 37.00/ hour POSITION SUMMARY:

Employees demonstrate empathy and respect in all interactions, are committed to service excellence, and embrace change through innovation.The purpose of the Maintenance I - Plumber position is to provide plumbing services to the system.MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: Installs, inspects, maintains and repairs drinking water treatment and backflow prevention equipment, performing routine inspection test procedures and testing for microbiological parameters in drinking water.

Investigates, identifies and rectifies problems such as leaks, blockages, and inadequate supply or faulty operation of water, heating, sewer, gas and air lines.

Plans, installs, repairs, replaces and maintains copper, steel, cast iron, plastic, glass and clay piping systems and plumbing fixtures.

Rebuilds circulating pumps on the heating, cooling water distribution and fire standpipe systems.

Assesses identifies and recommends makes recommendations to Supervisors assessment of items to be included in maintenance budgets for normal repair and energy conservation.

Responds to emergency calls regarding water treatment equipment failures, plugged sewers, pipe ruptures and heating failures.

Liaises with head custodians and principals and contractors in doing repairs and maintenance and meets with and monitors actions of contractors providing services to the Board.

Performs preventative maintenance on all plumbing systems and mechanical units as directed.

Inventories supplies to stock the department.

Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent.

Certification of Qualification Plumbing.

Certificate to test back flow prevention devices.

6 months to 1 year experience.SPECIALIZED SKILLS REQUIRED: Small water system operator license would be an asset.

Blueprint reading skills would be an asset.

Valid drivers license and use of own vehicle.

Skills in CO2 liquid pipe freezing would be an asset.

Basic electrical experience would be an asset.
