The School District

The Pacific Rim School District covers much of Central Vancouver Islands rugged, picturesque West Coast and serves a regional population of approximately 31,000 residing in the communities of Port Alberni, Tofino, Ucluelet, Bamfield and other remote communities. The schools are situated on the ha-houlthees of the ciaaat, hupacasath, tla-o-qui-aht, Yuuluilat, and Huu-ay-aht First Nations. The school district respectfully acknowledges that it works alongside all Nuu-chah-nulth Nations, other First Nations, and Metis and Inuit of British Columbia to serve all children and youth of the Alberni-Clayoquot region.

The district is home to 4000 students, 35% of whom are of Indigenous ancestry, in two neighbourhood secondary schools, eight elementary schools, and one K-9 school. The district has a successful alternate learning centre, a strong French Immersion program, a thriving international student program, and a busy continuing education program.

The School

Enrolling over 400 students in three schools and one family development program, EALC serves many alternative, online, and adult educational needs in the region. The principal of EALC leads Pacific Rim School Districts alternative program, online learning program, and continuing education program and supports the Kackaamin Family Development Center, the school districts Provincial Interministerial Program.

Key qualities, attributes and experiences include: Proven record of exemplary teaching/leadership in alternative programs, online programs, continuing education programs, and provincial interministerial programs.

Proven record of developing and facilitating strong community relationships with partner organizations such as: RCMP, Youth Probation, MCFD, Indigenous Communities, Indigenous Family and Child Services, Drug and Alcohol Prevention Services, and Tribal level services and organizations.

Proven record of exemplary relationships with students, staff, district-level administration, and parents

Demonstrated commitment to increase awareness, understanding and integration of Nuu-chah-Nulth, Metis and Inuit culture, history, and language.

Demonstrated commitment to and experience in instructional leadership and supervision of learning with a deep understanding of the new reporting order, the current BC curriculum, and the updated Graduation Program

Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with educational uses of technology, student information systems (MyEdBC), and other administrative software

Demonstrated knowledge of Inclusive Education Programs (including alternate education, learning support, special education, educational assistant support and active participation on the School Based Team)

Demonstrated ability to support and maintain a safe and caring school environment through caring relationships and positive behavioural intervention supports

Demonstrated focus on student success, particularly those priority students as identified in the Pacific Rim School Districts Framework for Enhancing Student Learning

Demonstrated focus on school improvement and staff development with intentional coherence between the school growth plan and the district strategic plan

Knowledge and understanding of the First Peoples Principles of Learning and commitment to improving school success for Indigenous students

Demonstrated commitment to building student voice and agency within school

Effective decision-making processes that build consensus, commitment, and collaboration Qualifications A valid British Columbia teaching certificate

Completion of or significant progress towards a Masters Degree in education or related field

Minimum of five years exemplary teaching/leadership experience at the secondary level including learners with unique needs. Wage Range $153,083 - $161,285
