Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools invites applications for the position of Family School Counsellor working a 1.0 full-time FTE. These positions will be based out of St. Benedict the Moor

Position Overview

Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools is seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals to join our Family School Counsellor team. This position focuses exclusively on providing support outside the school building to create successful families within our school communities. Together our Family School Counsellors will play a crucial role in fostering positive relationships, supporting parents, and ensuring the overall well-being of our school families.

Key Responsibilities

-Support the social, emotional and mental wellness of families within their home.

-Assist families in finding information and resources to help facilitate referrals to community agencies and other supportive services.

- Facilitate parent evenings and workshops to address relevant topics in promoting effective communication and parenting skills.

- Deliver professional development sessions on topics related to family support and mental health.

- Establish quick and meaningful connections with new families to assist with their targeted needs.

- The ability to prioritize services required to support referred families in a timely manner.

- Implement effective data tracking and reporting methods to monitor family progress and evaluate the impact of interventions.

Requirements

- Experience in counselling or social work, particularly in a family or school setting.

- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and trust quickly.

- Excellent data tracking and analytical skills to assess needs, measure outcomes and ensure all families across our entire school division are being supported as needed.

- Proficient in organizing and conducting parent evenings and workshops.

- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and external agencies to support families effectively.

-Knowledgeable about community supports and resources.

- Flexibility to work one week during the summer (July/August) for orientation, family support and planning purposes.

-Cultural sensitivity to the needs of diverse populations.

-Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation for travel between school sites.

Location

This position will be housed out of our St. Benedict building within the Red Deer Catholic School Division.

This position involves travel between multiple school sites and communities within Central Alberta.

Flexible working hours may be required to accommodate the needs of families, including evenings for parent workshops and home visitation to accommodate parent schedules and reduce barriers to service.
