In compliance with Board policies and procedures, responsible to provide leadership, support and expertise for the online Virtual Schooling program. The position supports the Boards blended learning implementation and strategy as it applies to the use of the Ministrys virtual learning environment (vLE) Desire2Learn. Evening hours may be required to provide the support required for the program.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: To lead the development and implementation of interesting, effective, and timely online education programs using available and affordable technologies.

To work in collaboration with the Administrators and teachers to support and maintain currency of online course content and curriculum products, learning support resources and delivery/assessment tools.

To use the flexibility offered by multimedia applications to target specific learning objectives and audiences.

To drive the implementation of new technologies that support/assist facilitators in the delivery of online training.

To provide experience and guidance with respect to the proper use of technology-based learning tools and support e-Learning teacher training and professional development.

To identify and execute continuous improvement of the Boards processes for online learning through the development and maintenance of a learning architecture that is designed to support future growth.

To keep current with emerging e-Learning advances and actively seek out new opportunities to expand service levels and improve the overall learning experience for students.

To establish and maintain critical business relationships with system stakeholders including Curriculum and Instructional Services, Student Services, Guidance departments, e-Learning Ontario and software vendors.

To support system adoption and utilization, including the use of new system functionality as well as the use of the system by new groups such as Alternative Education, Access, Strict Discipline and Credit Recovery.

To conduct technical or appropriate coaching for online teachers and assist in the delivery of online courses.

To plan, manage and administer the Learning Management System, the online Teacher Community, and the program public web site.

To provide direction and supervision to staff assigned to the projects for which the Manager is responsible, including casual or contract staff.

To coordinate the technical implementation of the Ministrys e-Learning Ontario Strategy.

To perform other duties as assigned by the principal

LINE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsible to the Principal, Continuing Education Services.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: A three year university degree in Instructional Design or Business Administration is required.

Minimum five years experience in managing projects, preferably in an online environment, with a proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Familiarity with learning theory, job task analysis, assessment and evaluation, learning styles, optimization of different learning technologies, and other instructional design skills that are required in order to deliver successful online programs.

Excellent technical aptitude, skills and knowledge including proven experience with relevant technologies in the following areas: web development programs and utilities, web interface design, and graphic design and layout.

Effective verbal and written communication, interpersonal and presentation skills is required.

Ability to work to deadlines and budget, take initiative with strong analysis and problem solve, and the commitment to understanding and utilizing new technology.

Ability to deal effectively with a variety of individuals and groups both within and outside the Board is required.Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Statement
