EIPS is recruiting a part-time (0.5 FTE) Counsellor at Glen Allan Elementary.
Glen Allan Elementary is an inclusive learning environment, serving approximately 290 students in kindergarten to Grade 6, with 34 engaged staff. The school is located in Sherwood Park, AB.
Glen Allan Elementarys school goals focus on literacy, numeracy, and citizenship with positive relationships being at the center of all our work. Open to internal and external applicants, priority will be given to EIPS teachers who hold a continuous contract and meet the minimum requirements of the position A master's degree in counselling and registered or provisional psychologist status is preferred. Consideration will be given to applicants presently working on a master's in this area. A m inimum of five years of teaching experience, education in psychology or a related discipline with a focus on counselling, and Violent Threat Risk Assessment Training (VTRA) would be considered an asset. Glen Allan Elementary is looking for a school counsellor to support students from K-6 in achieving academic goals and support their social and emotional wellbeing through a collaborative, comprehensive, preventive, and developmental counselling program. The school counsellors role includes counselling, child advocacy, school-based consultation, coordination of services, and educational programming. Experience with collaborative response and knowledge of the students and educators nervous systems would be considered an asset.Responsibilities:
Guide the development and implement a comprehensive school counselling program that focuses on and promotes students success.
Value and respond to the diversity and individual differences of students.
Ensure equitable access to opportunities and a rigorous curriculum for all students.
Provide direct support services to help students develop and improve their skill set.
Collaborate and consult with parents, teachers, community organizations and other stakeholders.
Work with families to provide information about other support services and mental health services as needed.
Work with staff on the development of Instructional Program Plans and Positive Behaviour Support Plans
Work collaboratively with staff and families to support the overall development of the students, academically, socially and emotionally.
Requirements: Proven working experience in school counselling.
Integrity and professionalism.
Advocacy skills.
Ability to respond effectively to the needs of a diverse student population.
Working knowledge of various counselling models, practices, and resources.
Engaging interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills.
Sound judgement and emotional intelligence.
Excellent listening and problem-solving skills.
Be experienced working within school systems as a teacher.
Possess a valid and current Alberta Teaching Certificate.
