Supports for Students is in search of a dynamic, forward-thinking educational leader who possesses a high level of energy and creativity. The ideal candidate should be capable of collaborating effectively with a diverse team towards a common set of goals and objectives. They should also be a problem solver with the ability to approach challenges from different angles and perspectives. As an independent worker, the successful candidate should be able to manage multiple roles and responsibilities. The successful candidate will report to the Director of Support for Supports and will provide support to Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) staff and students.

This position is open to internal and external candidates and is a one-year term with the possibility of extension. This is a 10-month position and follows the school calendar but may include additional work outside of this at the discretion of the Director. ? Submit a cover letter and resume.

Responsibilities

As a member of the Instructional Supports team, the Grade 4-9 Numeracy and Science Consultant will be responsible for a range of duties that include, but are not limited to: Collaborating with school administrators, teachers and staff to provide support and services to a variety of elementary and secondary schools.

Modelling and demonstrating research-based instructional practices and providing in-class coaching and feedback to promote student-centered, collaborative, visible thinking classrooms and engaging learning environments.

Serving as a Division-wide resource for numeracy and science by developing high quality professional development focusing on best practices, and providing learning opportunities for teachers, administrators and parents.

Supporting teachers in the Teaching Quality Standard (TQS).

Supporting teachers in improving assessment practices within their classroom, including the triangulation of data and utilizing professional judgement.

Assisting teachers in implementing the best pedagogical practices to incorporate technology effectively into the classroom.

Supporting the implementation of the new Alberta curriculum, specifically supporting mathematics and science teachers in understanding new content and material, and best instructional practices.

Supporting new curriculum teachers in the creation of resources.

Supporting the integration of assessment, numeracy, and technology in all instructional practices and content areas at the secondary level.

Utilizing data from STAR Math Assessments, Provincial Achievement Tests and common exams to support instruction, and providing reporting and data information as requested.

Keeping abreast of current research in the areas of mathematics and science.

Demonstrating a commitment to learning agility, innovation and creativity, and collaborating with other EIPS departments to ensure students needs are effectively met.The primary focus of this position is to provide support and training for teachers and administrators in effective numeracy, mathematics and science instructional practices at the elementary and secondary levels. The Grade 4-9 Numeracy and Science Consultant will demonstrate a strong understanding of pedagogy, curriculum, assessment, and reporting practices.

Travel to all areas of Elk Island Public Schools will be required for this position.

Education and Experience Alberta Permanent Teaching Certificate

Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience

Extensive experience and knowledge of numeracy best practices at the secondary level through all content areas

School and/or system-based leadership experience in improving instructional practice

Master's Degree or current enrollment in a Master's program is considered an asset Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes Innovative thinker with the ability to creatively solve problems

Strong, independent worker, capable of managing many roles and demands

Proficient in a variety of technological platforms

Ability to work with a diverse team

Exceptional communicator (written and verbal)
