EIPS is recruiting a full-time term certain Health Recovery Advisor for our Human Resources department (HR) located at Central Services. Commencing December 16, 2024 and ending January 6, 2026
Working 37.5 hours per week (7.5 hours per day)
This is a 12-month position (not school calendar)

EIPS provides a comprehensive benefit package to all term certain employees Elk Island Public Schools Central Services building is located in Sherwood Park, at 683 Wye Road. Providing services for the Division, Central Services is comprised of eight departments, in addition to the Board of Trustees. The departments include Education Executive, Communication Services, Facility Services, Student Transportation, Human Resources, Financial Services, Supports for Students and Information Technologies. Central Services is staffed by 190 employees. Human Resources is home to approximately 15 of our EIPS employees.
Function and Purpose of Position
This Position delivers jurisdiction wide health and wellness services and is housed within Human Resources. Responsibilities include facilitating recovery and rehabilitation following an injury or illness.
The Health Recovery Advisor acts as the primary point of contact for the sick or injured employee, taking the lead in all disability management issues from initial absence to closure. The Health Recovery Advisor liaises with employees, insurance providers, health care professionals, supervisors, HR team members, and other stakeholders to effectively coordinate the claims management process, with the goal of a successful and safe return to work minimizing lost time.
Health Recovery/WCB
Provide advice and assistance regarding health recovery goals and objectives
Monitor employee status for short and long-term disability and Workers Compensation (WCB) in a timely manner.
Facilitates and assists in the planning of return-to-work and return to work accommodations for employees by working closely with the benefits provider.
Facilitate regular, open communication between stakeholders
Monitor and administer the Employee Family Assistance Programs (EFAP) for its effectiveness
Identify rehabilitation requirements working cooperatively with medical professionals and insurance carriers to achieve desired outcomes for each employee
Ensure that all work is done in compliance with privacy and other relevant legislation
Monitor all incoming medical documentation and claims related correspondence for appropriate direction and follow-up including communicating timelines as necessary.
Human Resources Support
Assist other Human Resources staff with peak workloads and with special projects and events
Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE a)Education:
i)High School diploma
ii)Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP) is considered an asset
iii)Disability Management Certificate is considered an assetb)Experience:
i)Minimum of 3-5 years of related Disability Management experience
ii)Minimum of 12 months related experience in Human Resources with a preference to working in health recoveryAn equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTITUDES
Excellent knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in Share Point, Microsoft software programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Working knowledge of Human Resource Information System
Proficient in extracting data from web-based applications and importing into other software
Advanced knowledge of office procedures, routines, and equipmentDECISION MAKING
Balancing the needs of the organization with the desire to have employees return to work safely in a timely manner.
Determine the gradual return to work plan and facilitate the gradual return to work meeting
Identify additional resources and treatment providers as needed i.e., identifying additional EFAP providers to provider greater accessibility for staff

Work is in a comfortable area with little exposure to unpleasant conditions and little physical discomfort. There are frequent interruptions.
This position is full-time; Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week
Extra work hours may be required during peak times
ADDITIONAL REQIREMENTS
Working knowledge of collective agreements, Human Resource policies, procedures, WCB, and FOIP legislation
Understanding of district programs and operations
Attention to detail and the ability to work with numbers
Strong interpersonal skills (oral and written) and the ability to develop and maintain contact with staff at all levels of the district with tact and courtesy.
Ability to assist employees who have health related difficulties in a respectful, compassionate, and understanding manner.
Ability to explain health recovery and maternity/parental leaves to staff at all levels.
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Ability to use discretion and handle confidential information appropriately
