Special Education Teaching Positions in Kingfisher Lake, Wunnumin Lake and Wapekeka

Seeeking professional teachers for 2023 -2024 academic year. These professionals must be willing to travel up north, in the pristine and calming environment of nature and wildlife. The land bears witness of many diverse native cultures and traditions that not many people know and understand.

SCHOOL ACTIVITIES The school holds many gatherings and festivals that honour the land and people. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate. The school population is around 100 students from JK to Grade 8. After grade 8, students go out to urban high schools and this maybe their first time out of the community.

The school has local staff that work as education assistants and social counselors. There are also the native language teachers who teach the Oji-cree language to students in each class.

The school hosts activities that are traditional and cultural that teach lessons and skills. Each grade is involved and gets to be part of learning. The academic curriculum and guidelines are from the ministry of education Ontario and some local content is used.

The main language of the community is OJI-Cree. The school is the main support of keeping the oral language alive. This is to ensure future generations of children will have the oral language fluency of their language.

The vacancies of the positions are: Special Education Teacher: work with children with physical, emotional, mental, and learning disabilities. Special Ed Teachers help students achieve important learning milestones by using various teaching methods tailored to the specific needs of each student.

In general, the best candidate for this position will hold a degree in Special Education and will have relevant work experience. Also, its an advantage if the candidate can present a sample of previous lesson plans, they have developed to demonstrate their teaching methods. A good working knowledge of this position is an asset, as students needs are vital and critical to their success, thus must develop an IEP to support them.

Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree

Elementary AMI or MACTE certification or Ontario Teacher Certificate Qualification

At Least 2 Years of teaching experience

Excellent oral and written skills

Strong organizational skills

Strong classroom management skills

Keen observation skills

Other skills can be:

First Aid and CPR certificate
