1.0 FTE CONTINUING ASSIGNMENT
DISTRICT ELEMENTARY COUNSELLOR EFFECTIVE: SEPTEMBER 1, 2023 The successful candidate will: Have a valid teaching certificate for the Province of British Columbia and proof of current membership in the BC College of Teachers
Have a graduate degree in counselling
Have recent successful experience as a counsellor
Have recent successful teaching experience
Have documented excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills
Have experience in working with children and adolescents with social-emotional challenges
Have a willingness to work in a supportive and cooperative manner with existing school and district personnel in the delivery of a comprehensive counselling program at the elementary level
Have experience in developing I.E.Ps and behavior support plans for students exhibiting emotional and behavioral challenges
The ability to complete functional behavioral assessments would be an asset
Have experience in teaching social skills and social-emotional wellbeing lessons to elementary age students
Be skilled in providing in-service for staff on counselling strategies related to the classroom
Embed the First Nations Principles of Learning in all subject areas
Be committed to and practice the philosophy of inclusion
Be committed to working as a cooperative, collaborative member of a school wide instructional team and attend meetings as required
Be committed to consultation, parent conferences, and positive home/school/community liaison
Possess a valid drivers license; travel throughout the district is a requirement
Have an exemplary driving record as demonstrated by a current drivers abstract
